Three Nigerian journalists have been arrested for inciting violence by saying on a radio show that polio immunizations were an anti-Islam Western conspiracy, just days before health workers administering the vaccines were killed.

Gunmen on motorbikes shot dead the nine health workers in two separate attacks in Nigeria’s main northern city of Kano on Friday.

No one claimed responsibility but Islamist militant group Boko Haram, a sect that has condemned the use of Western education, has been blamed for carrying out a spate of assaults on security forces in the city, Reuters reports.

Kano Police Chief Ibrahim Idris told Reuters on Monday three journalists from Wazobia FM had been detained after they said on their show on Wednesday that immunization against polio was anti-Islam and a Western conspiracy to cause infertility in women.

Some influential Muslim leaders in Kano openly oppose the vaccinations for the same reasons.

The killings could hamper efforts by global health organizations to clear Nigeria’s mostly Muslim north of the virus that can cause irreversible paralysis within hours of infection.

Gunmen Kill Anti-Polio Workers in Attacks in Pakistan

A Pakistani mother mourned her daughter, who was killed on Tuesday in an attack on health workers participating in a drive to eradicate polio from Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Gunmen shot dead five female health workers who were immunizing children against polio on Tuesday, causing the Pakistani government to suspend vaccinations in two cities and dealing a fresh setback to an eradication campaign dogged by Taliban resistance in a country that is one of the disease’s last global strongholds.

The bodies of two female workers with an anti-polio drive lay in the morgue at Jinnah Hospital in Karachi on Tuesday.

“It is a blow, no doubt,” said Shahnaz Wazir Ali, an adviser on polio to Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf. “Never before have female health workers been targeted like this in Pakistan. Clearly there will have to be more and better arrangements for security.”

No group claimed responsibility for the attacks, but most suspicion focused on the Pakistani Taliban, which has previously blocked polio vaccinators and complained that the United States is using the program as a cover for espionage.

The killings were a serious reversal for the multibillion-dollar global polio immunization effort, which over the past quarter century has reduced the number of endemic countries from 120 to just three: Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria.

Nonetheless, United Nations officials insisted that the drive would be revived after a period for investigation and regrouping, as it had been after previous attacks on vaccinators here, in Afghanistan and elsewhere.

Pakistan has made solid gains against polio, with 56 new recorded cases of the diseases in 2012, compared with 192 at the same point last year, according to the government. Worldwide, cases of death and paralysis from polio have been reduced to less than 1,000 last year, from 350,000 worldwide in 1988.

But the campaign here has been deeply shaken by Taliban threats and intimidation, though several officials said Tuesday that they had never seen such a focused and deadly attack before.

Insurgents have long been suspicious of polio vaccinators, seeing them as potential spies. But that greatly intensified after the C.I.A. used a vaccination team headed by a local doctor, Shakil Afridi, to visit Osama bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad, reportedly in an attempt to obtain DNA proof that the Bin Laden family was there before an American commando raid attacked it in May 2011.

In North Waziristan, one prominent warlord has banned polio vaccinations until the United States ceases drone strikes in the area.

Despite constant vaccination campaigns elsewhere in Pakistan, polio is rising in the militancy-hit Northwest Pakistan, since two more cases of polio were reported in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and the adjacent tribal areas in the past week.

The 5 biggest health myths

By Dr. David Jockers, April 25 2012

(NaturalNews) There are many pervasive myths that have been misleading people in the natural health field for many years. Some of these myths continue to be the mainstream thought even though science has clearly demonstrated that they are untrue. Understanding these health myths and the real truth sets you free from a lifestyle of sickness and disease.

Myth: Eating fat makes you fat

The truth is that diets high in omega 3 fatty acids and saturated fats are linked to lower rates of obesity and better overall health. Man-made fats (trans-fats) and refined vegetable oils are inflammatory and disrupt metabolism. Good fats help to build healthy cell membranes. These membranes are able to utilize good hormonal communication signals to appropriately manage metabolism.

Diets rich in sugars, grains, hydrogenated oils and omega 6 fats inflame the body and damage the cell membranes. This alters insulin and leptin signaling and leads to insulin & leptin resistance, weight gain, diabetes and chronic inflammation.

Diets rich in good fats (saturated and omega 3), anti-oxidants, electrolytes and trace minerals de-inflame the body and allow for proper insulin/leptin signaling resulting in weight loss, stable energy and disease prevention.

Major New Issues with Vaccines Are Surfacing

By Greg Davidson
Food Freedom News

Bill Gates spoke to Sanjay Gupta on CNN in February 2011, saying that skeptics of vaccines are killing children.  But 2011 was to be a year in which Gates’ own polio vaccine program in India paralyzed 47,500 children and those paralyzed died at twice the rate of those infected by wild polio.  Gates’ eradication program has two problems.

First, it is predicated on a scientific falsehood, since it’s been known for ten years that polio cannot be eradicated, not since the biotech industry developed a synthetic polio virus.  In the latest issue of the Indian Journal of Medical Ethics, Neetu Vashisht and Jacob Puliyel at St. Stephens Hospital in Delhi explain:

“The charade about polio eradication and the great savings it will bring has persisted to date. It is a paradox that while the director general of WHO, Margret Chan, and Bill Gates are trying to muster support for polio eradication (22) it has been known to the scientific community, for over 10 years, that eradication of polio is impossible. This is because in 2002 scientists had synthesised a chemical called poliovirus in a test-tube with the empirical formula C332,652H492,388N98,245O131,196P7, 501S2,340. It has been demonstrated that by positioning the atoms in sequence, a particle can emerge with all the properties required for its proliferation and survival in nature (23, 24).” [Emphasis added.]

“Wimmer writes that the test-tube synthesis of poliovirus has wiped out any possibility of eradicating poliovirus in the future. Poliovirus cannot be declared extinct because the sequence of its genome is known and modern biotechnology allows it to be resurrected at any time in vitro. Man can thus never let down his guard against poliovirus. Indeed the 18-year-old global eradication campaign for polioviruses will have to be continued in some format forever. The long promised ‘infinite’ monetary benefits from ceasing to vaccinate against poliovirus will never be achieved (24). The attraction that ‘eradication’ has for policy makers will vanish once this truth is widely known.”

The second is that the synthetic polio virus created in biotech labs is more virulent, and more likely to kill than the natural one.

The biotech industry has created other new synthetic viruses.  Pertussis is another.  There, too, the world is seeing increasing cases of pertussis among the vaccinated, and in fact, the diseases is spreading among them.  Of particular note is the relation to a new strain of bacteria.  Is this also a biotech synthetic virus?

“Dr. Fritz Mooi, a well-known Dutch scientist who has been studying mutations of the pertussis bacteria for 15 years, said a more virulent strain of bacteria is contributing to outbreaks.”

Meanwhile, measles vaccines are showing the same propensity to cause the disease they are supposed to prevent. In Largest measles outbreak in the Americas since 2000: Quebec Ongoing Epidemic, Philippe Belanger, Ministèr of Social Services in Québec, Montréal, stated:

“While this still ongoing outbreak feeds largely on unvaccinated individuals, the high proportion of cases who received two doses raises concerns on vaccine effectiveness. However, the take-home message is still to get vaccinated.”

Gaia Health takes exception with that last sentence: “Belanger overstates the facts. In some areas, as demonstrated by De Serres’ study, more of the vaccinated have come down with measles.”

Dr. Gaston De Serres, an infectious diseases expert with the Quebec’s public health agency, is the lead author of another study, which shows that 52 of 98 measles cases in teens who’d been fully vaccinated, reports Gaia Health.

“Exactly why getting vaccinated is the ‘take-home message’ doesn’t appear to be explained,” says Gaia Health. “As is so often the case in vaccination issues, the need for vaccines is taken on faith.”

Based on an unpublished WHO study on measles risk among the vaccinated and unvaccinated, Mr. Belanger should not be surprised that those who have been vaccinated for measles would be contracting measles. In fact, it should be expected.

Studies over many years have shown vaccines causing the very diseases they claim to prevent, and even causing more diseases.  But the new issues with vaccines extend beyond even these disturbing facts:

US biopharma: "nearly 300 vaccines in R&D"

US biopharmaceutical companies are developing nearly 300 vaccines for the prevention and treatment of a wide variety of diseases, according to new industry data.

The vaccines, all of which are currently in clinical trials or under review at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), include 170 for infectious diseases, 102 for cancers and eight for neurological disorders, says the report, from the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA).

“Vaccines are one of the greatest achievements of biomedical science and public health,” said PhRMA chief executive John J Castellani. “Over the past few decades, vaccinations have helped prevent and in some cases nearly eliminate contagious and deadly diseases affecting children and adults alike.”

According to a recent study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there has in the US been a greater than 90% decrease in incidence of nine infectious diseases, including smallpox and measles, for which vaccines have been recommended for decades. Reduction in mortality and morbidity by vaccination means fewer doctors’ visits and hospitalisations, which translates into healthcare cost savings, as well as fewer days off work, leading to improved productivity, says PhRMA.

How women may benefit from bioidentical testosterone therapy

By Healthy Times Newspaper, April 26 2012

(NaturalNews) Women experience a precipitous drop in estrogen during the years surrounding menopause. Ten or more years before the ovaries shut down, there are gradual declines in both progesterone and testosterone. Both are rarely measured in the course of normal physical examinations, yet both have critical roles in preventing the epidemic of estrogen-dominant diseases such as reproductive and breast cancer, autoimmune disease, reduced bone density and osteoporosis, as well as reduced libido and sexual insensitivity.

Testosterone therapy for women

More and more evidence over the last decade has suggested testosterone is a very important hormone in women, especially in terms of staying fit, lean and sexually active. A double-blind placebo controlled study of 75 women aged 31 – 56 who underwent hysterectomy and bilateral oophorectomy (ovary removal) found dramatic decreases in circulating testosterone levels. Over 12 weeks, the women were given a placebo patch, a patch containing 150 mcg of testosterone or a patch containing 300 mcg of testosterone. It was found the 300 mcg dose made significant improvements in sexual function, mood and general well being.

Harmful toxins in the air

Most of us think air pollution comes from city roadways, toxic factories, waste-dumps or chemical processing plants. But, (sadly) it’s the air right inside your own home or office that seriously threatens your health. Modern-day living conditions have most people spending time in shopping malls, sealed buildings and cars without good air circulation.

One of the worst offenders of healthy air is second-hand cigarette smoke. This stagnant (poisonous) air can cause lung cancer, emphysema, heart disease plus much more. Tobacco smoke contains over 3,950 deadly gases including, carbon monoxide, nicotine and tar which lower oxygen levels within our blood stream and damage organs, tissues and cells. Needless to say, cleaning up our air space needs to be a top priority.

A Pet Guide to Going ‘Green’

Maybe you’re driving a Toyota Prius that gets 40 MPG. Or maybe you’ve got solar panels on your roof, compact fluorescent light bulbs in your home, and an organic garden in your backyard. But that doesn’t mean you should stop exploring more ways to reduce your carbon footprint. And for the rest of us, it isn’t too late to start either. There are plenty of things you can do as a pet owner to show your furry “little ones” that you care about the environment. After all, it’s their planet, too.

Reduce. It might seem obvious, but buying pet food and other pet products in bulk saves you extra trips to the store and avoids needless plastic packaging or cardboard boxes that end up in the local landfill anyway. Reducing shouldn’t end there, though. As Bob Barker always said, “Help control the pet population, have your pets spayed or neutered.” Every year millions of cats and dogs are euthanized around the world. This is the devastating reality, but it’s also avoidable. Having your pet spayed or neutered not only curbs its aggressiveness once it reaches maturity, it is the best way to avoid sending an unwanted puppy or kitten to the local shelter, many of which are never adopted.

Rescue Stories

From Stray Cat to TV Commercials

From Stray Cat to TV Commercials

Nicholas was found by a Vet Nurse wandering around the back of their surgery. She asked the Vet could they try to find a home for him. Nicholas was then desexed, vaccinated/microchipped/wormed. He sat patiently in a cage day & night in the Vets Reception Area waiting….for a kind person to love him & take him home. Unfortunately no one fell in love with Nicholas & his time was running out…such a handsome, friendly 2yr old Cat. A Rescue Group heard about his plight & gave him to me to Foster. His pic/story went up on PetRescue website in Australia. A Company that uses Animals for Movies, Stage Plays & TV Commercial contacted me, having seen his photograph on PetRescue…off Nicholas went to do his Acting Job for 3 days…Nicholas is now the face for Purina Dry Cat Food in Australia because he looks just like the US Purina Cat. Nicholas was Adopted a few months ago by a very kind lady & her Partner. Nicholas has settled in perfectly & is now living with 2 Rescued Golden Retrievers who adore this lucky little Cat.

Animal Trainer (TV Commercials) commented to me she believed Nicholas could be trained to sit very easily…9 requests to Sit from me & Nicholas sat everytime I asked him to….he is a super smart, loveable Cat who could have easily died as a stray or euthanised by the Vet. Cats from Shelters & Strays have had to rough it to survive which gives them I believe more intelligence than the average domesticated Cat only the strong/smart survive the challenges they have to deal with out in the cruel harsh world as we all know not everyone likes Cats which is a shame. I have found people who dislike Cats have never lived with one.

Birth defects are one-third more likely in babies conceived with IVF, according to studies

By J. D. Heyes, April 25 2012

(NaturalNews) Technology is a wonderful thing in most cases, but sometimes doing things the old-fashioned way is not only better, it’s safertoo. To wit, a new study found that babies conceived through in vitro fertilization (IVF) – when a mother’s egg is fertilized outside her body then transplanted to her womb – are more at risk for birth defects.

According to a review of scores of studies by Zhibin Hu at Nanjing Medical University in China, babies conceived that way, or by using intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) – in which a single sperm is injected directly into the egg – are one-third more likely, or 37 percent, to be born with problems or malformations.

Researchers, whose findings were published in the journal Fertility and Sterility, could not find a logical reason why technology seemed to cause the additional incidents of birth defects, or even if technology was responsible.

Still, in examining 46 separate bodies of research on IVF, which has been available to women for more than 30 years and which has often been the subject of research, found that in terms of having “normal” babies, replacing technology with the natural child-bearing process produces more kids with more physical and mental problems and limitations.

“Children conceived by IVF and/or ICSI are at significantly increased risk for birth defects, and there is no risk difference between children conceived by IVF and/or ICSI,” the team wrote, in examining data on more than 124,000 children born through artificial insemination.

That compares with three in 100 children in the U.S. who are born with serious birth defects such as a malformed limb or organ, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Reutersreported.
