This week’s Mainstream Media Scream features a new report from the Media Research Center about the revolving door between Team Obama and the news media. The total has now reached 30, with MSNBC’s debut of two shows Monday, Ronan Farrow’s “Ronan Farrow Daily” and Joy-Ann Reid’s “The Reid Report.” Both have toiled for President Obama.

“Ours is a strict ‘revolving door’ list, sticking to those with jobs as reporters, editors, correspondents, anchors, producers or media executives, not those who just have or had roles as ‘contributors’ to news outlets,” said MRC.

The MRC report lists all 30.

“I’ve tracked the news media-political position revolving door since the Reagan days, and never have I seen so many journalists leave the news media to help advance the cause of a presidential administration by joining it. At least 25 so far, with White House press secretary Jay Carney, who had been Time magazine’s Washington Bureau Chief, the poster child,” said Media Research Center Vice President of Research Brent Baker.

Ronan Farrow: From State Department to Twitter legend to MSNBC host (A timeline)

In this 2011 photo released by the United Nations Foundation, Ronan Farrow speaks during the Social Good Summit in New York. (AP/United Nations Foundation/Gary He)

Monday afternoon, 26-year-old Ronan Farrow kicks off his very own news program on MSNBC, “Ronan Farrow Daily.” A couple years ago, you may have only recognized his name if you had an in-depth knowledge of celebrity offspring and human rights advocates. Now, Farrow (the biological son of Mia Farrow and Woody Allen — or is it Frank Sinatra?) is everywhere.

Thanks to a talent for being on-camera, a massively public family scandal, and a few skewering tweets that have made him something of a Twitter legend, Farrow has risen through the ranks from child prodigy to State Department employee to major cable news network host. A look at how that happened:

2004: Farrow graduates from Bard College at age 15, the school’s youngest graduate ever. “Boy genius” title cemented.

2006: Already serving as a spokesperson for UNICEF and working on rights issues around the world, he’s also a journalist, and writes a controversial Wall Street Journal piece about Chinese investments and the Darfur conflict. That story shows his expertise in human rights and foreign policy, and he starts appearing on TV as a commentator.

Two New MSNBC Hosts Bring News Media-Obama Revolving Door to 30

Two New MSNBC Hosts Bring News Media-Obama Revolving Door to 30

With two political activists, who toiled for Barack Obama, starting hosting duties today with new shows on MSNBC (Ronan Farrow’s 1 PM EST Ronan Farrow Daily and Joy-Ann Reid’s 2 PM EST The Reid Report), the Media Research Center’s list of those revolving between working on behalf of Obama and positions in the news media has reached 30.

(Ours is a strict “revolving door” list, sticking to those with jobs as reporters, editors, correspondents, anchors, producers or media executives, not those who just have or had roles as “contributors” to news outlets. And we’re sticking to those with a direct tie to one of Obama’s campaigns or a position within his administration, so none of the many others in the news media who currently or have in the past put in stints for Democratic officials or even liberal groups which advance Obama’s agenda. For instance, that leaves out Teddy Davis, who in 2010 jumped from ABC News, where he was Deputy Political Director, to the left-wing Service Employees International Union.

Also, not here: Relatives, such as ABC’s Claire Shipman, who is married to White House Press Secretary Jay Carney.)

1) David Axelrod: political reporter for the Chicago Tribune, late 1970s-1984 >>> chief strategist for the Obama presidential campaign, 2007-2008; Senior Adviser to the President, 2009-2011; Senior Strategist, Obama-Biden Re-Election Committee, 2011-12 >>> Senior Political Analyst for MSNBC, 2013-

2) Roberta Baskin: former senior investigative producer for the ABC News magazine 20/20, chief investigative correspondent for CBS’s 48 Hours and senior Washington correspondent for PBS’s Now with Bill Moyers >>> Director of Media Communications for the Office of Inspector General at the Department of Health and Human Services, 2009- (2009 Washington Post item)

Things got heated when MSNBC anchor Kristen Welker cited critics who’ve accused Greenwald of “crossing a line” in his defense of Edward Snowden. “What do you say to your critics who say you’ve become more of a spokesman for Edward Snowden?” she asked.

“I think that’s ludicrous is what I say to that,” Greenwald shot back. “Every journalist has an agenda. We’re on MSNBC now, where close to 24 hours a day the agenda of President Obama and the Democratic Party are promoted, defended, glorified, the agenda of the Republican Party is undermined. That doesn’t mean the people who appear on MSNBC aren’t journalists, they are.”

He said that every journalist has a “viewpoint” and he doesn’t hide the fact that he finds Snowden’s decision to expose the NSA’s surveillance programs “heroic.”

I think the point is not so much about MSNBC and what happens here,” Welker said in defense of her employer, “but more that sometimes when you talk about Edward Snowden you do defend him, and some people wonder if that crosses a line.”

“Sure, I do defend him just like people on MSNBC defend President Obama and his officials and Democratic Party leaders 24 hours a day.” When Welker pushed back that “not everyone on MSNBC does that 24 hours a day,” Greenwald conceded that it’s “not everybody, but a lot of people do.”

After comparing Snowden to figures like Chelsea Manning and Daniel Ellsberg, Greenwald said, “I absolutely do defend what Edward Snowden does and I don’t pretend otherwise.”

GLENN GREENWALD TO MSNBC: I’m Defending Snowden Like You Defend Obama ’24 Hours A Day’

Glenn Greenwald, the journalist who has been at the forefront of the National Security Agency leaks from Edward Snowden, defended his ties to the former agency contractor on MSNBC Thursday.Greenwald was asked by MSNBC anchor Kristen Welker to respond to critics that have charged Greenwald has “crossed a line” in defending Snowden and has become a “spokesman” for him.

Greenwald sniped back by blasting the network, charging that its own bias lies within its “24-hour” defense of President Barack Obama and the Democratic Party.

“I think that’s ludicrous — that’s what I say to that,” Greenwald said.

“Every journalist has an agenda. We’re on MSNBC now, where, close to 24 hours a day, the agenda of President Obama and the Democratic Party are promoted, defended, glorified, [and] the agenda of the Republican Party is undermined. That doesn’t mean that the people who appear on MSNBC aren’t journalists — they are.”

abortion

Monday, July 29, 2013
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger
Editor of NaturalNews.com

(NaturalNews) Today Natural News denounces Melissa Harris-Perry, the latest talking head “death worshipper” to publicly imply that she supports the murder of living, breathing newborn children. According to Harris-Perry, life begins when the parents feel like life begins. And together with some twisted new “ethics” arguments from the radical left, this can include months or years after a child is born.

That’s why I need to premise this article with a disclaimer: This article is not about abortion. It’s about the murder of children after they are born. Because once a child is born alive, terminating that life is no longer a “choice” … it’s murder by every legal and moral standard. Because while abortion friends and foes can argue about when life begins in the womb, no one disagrees that a child born alive is, well, ALIVE… do they?

Indeed, they do. MSNBC talking head Melissa Harris-Perry insists that life only begins when the parents have a “feeling” that it begins. “When does life begin? I submit the answer depends an awful lot on the feeling of the parents. A powerful feeling — but not science,” Harris-Perry said to nationwide astonishment on her July 21 MSNBC show.

And in one stroke, she simultaneously condones the murder of newborn infants (i.e. “post-birth abortion”) while attacking the science of biology which unambiguously states that a living, breathing infant with a heartbeat and brain function is alive, not dead.

But don’t tell that to the radical abortion whackos. Far beyond arguing for the “right” to abort a baby in the first or second trimester, many abortion advocates who run in the same circles as Melissa Harris-Perry are now publicly arguing that it is okay for parents to kill their children up to age three. This is now being promoted as a “post-birth abortion.”

It was also called a “fourth trimester abortion” by a clever pollster who recently took to the streets of George Mason University to find out if summertime college students would sign a petition legalizing fourth-trimester abortions. Nearly all who were asked to sign the petition did so! One of the college students even asked whether the procedure would “cause harm to the child.”

“Well the child wouldn’t be there anymore,” responded the pollster, after which the college student then proceeded to sign the petition.

Watch this video yourself at:

And yes, this is how incredibly stupid many of today’s college students really are. Then again, I remember a guy back in college who walked in on a group of us watching a football game and asked, “How many quarters are there in a football game?” His lack of mathematical prowess would have made him a ripe target for the “fourth trimester abortion” gimmick, I’ll bet.

Murdering live babies under the label of “abortion”

Let’s be clear about where all this is headed. This is not about arguing over a woman’s right to have a first- or second-trimester abortion. This isn’t even a debate about a third-trimester abortion, the kind of abortion that was recently outlawed in Texas, much to the despair of late-term abortion advocates across the country, some of whom actually chanted “Hail Satan” in unison at the Austin abortion rally.

This is really about the zealous desire of the radical left to legalize the “aborting” of babies after they are born alive so that parents can have the legal right to kill living babies they suddenly decide they don’t want to raise.

Getting back to Harris-Perry, according to her radical brand of death culture ideology, a parent can “decide” that a baby born alive isn’t really alive yet. That parent can wait to see whether the baby is well-behaved, or cute, or has the right skin color, or whatever, before deciding whether to keep it or kill it. If such an ideology were fronted by someone like George Bush, it would be wildly derided as barbaric and anti-human, but because the idea of murdering newborn babies is being pushed by liberals, it is met with silence instead of outrage.

“When a pregnancy is wanted . . . It is easy to think of the bump as a baby,” says Melissa Harris-Perry, implying that when a pregnancy is not wanted, that bump isn’t a baby at all. Somehow it’s just a mass of dead tissue that you can dispose of at will. The fact that the “bump” results in a live childbirth is never admitted by people like Harris-Perry. The baby isn’t “alive” until you decide it is!

MSNBC: Where it’s Always Opposite Day

Posted by

86241I get it.  I really do.  But that doesn’t mean I’m going to ignore it.

It seems obvious to me that in order to hold a place of prominence at MSNBC you either need to be a partisan hack, or totally clueless of history.

Probably both.

So when MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show producer Steve Benen shares his opinion, it’s usually just best to turn a blind eye to his idiocy.

But, sometimes it’s important to pay attention to what they say because it can actually give us insight on just what we should do for liberty.  In fact, if you believe in the right to keep and bear arms and wonder what to do to support that right, you’ll get all the advice you need in Steve’s recent Maddow Blog article, “Pointless Nullification in Kansas.”

Surprised?  Read on.  It’s true.

BACKSTORY

This month, Kansas Governor Sam Brownback signed into law the “Second Amendment Protection Act,” a bill that reasserts the state’s role in protecting the right to keep and bear arms of those living there.   The bill reads, in part:

“Any act, law, treaty, order, rule or regulation of the government of the United States which violates the second amendment to the constitution of the United States is null, void and unenforceable in the state of Kansas.”

In conjunction with the above clause, the bill defines what is meant by “the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States,” and that it isn’t based off a decision by the Supreme Court.

The second amendment to the constitution of the United States reserves to the people, individually, the right to keep and bear arms as that right was understood at the time that Kansas was admitted to statehood in 1861, and the guaranty of that right is a matter of contract between the state and people of Kansas and the United States as of the time that the compact with the United States was agreed upon and adopted by Kansas in 1859 and the United States in 1861.

By definition, state and local agents cannot enforce any acts or actions that are “null, void and unenforceable in the state of Kansas.”  Based off this text, the state of Kansas now cannot participate in any federal gun control measures that restrict the individual right to keep and bear arms as understood when Kansas became a state in 1861.

I happen to think such a state law is a big deal.   In Steve’s blog “report” on the issue, he quoted me as saying that this bill is “potentially the most important state level bill passed in modern American history.”

He didn’t take too kindly to that opinion, though, and spent some time talking about my “hyperbole” and the “cause for alarm” over the fact that Brownback signed this bill into law.

In fact, Steve spent quite a bit of time explaining how such an act is a waste of time.  He even said the law doesn’t make “any sense at all.”

SENSE

So here’s some sense for our propagandist.  According to Steve, the courts, and the court only, determine what the constitution actually means.  But that flies in the face of what James Madison had to say.  You know Madison, the guy referred to as the “Father of the Constitution.”   In his own words:

“The States then being the parties to the constitutional compact, and in their sovereign capacity, it follows of necessity, that there can be no tribunal above their authority, to decide in the last resort, whether the compact made by them be violated; and consequently that as the parties to it, they must themselves decide in the last resort, such questions as may be of sufficient magnitude to require their interposition.”

U.S. Drone Program

By Nikki Seay, Mon, February 25, 2013

Former White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Sunday that the reason he and other administration spokespeople sometimes seem evasive about the government’s drone program is because they have been told not to acknowledge the secret strikes.

“When I went through the process of becoming press secretary,” Gibbs told MSNBC, “one of the things, one of the first things they told me was, ‘You’re not even to acknowledge the drone program. You’re not even to discuss that it exists.’ ”

Gibbs said that instruction led to a sort of “Wizard of Oz” phenomenon when he was asked about drone operations in the press briefing.

“I would get a question like that and literally I couldn’t tell you what Major asked, because once I figured out it was about the drone program, I realize I’m not supposed to talk about it.

“Here’s what’s inherently crazy about that proposition,” Gibbs said. “You’re being asked a question based on reporting of a program that exists. So you’re the official government spokesperson acting as if the entire program — pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.”

Current White House Press Secretary Jay Carney acknowledged the drone program in the past weeks, as questions swirled over a leaked Justice Department whitepaper that outlined legal reasons the government claims enable it to carry out drone strikes against terrorist-affiliated American citizens abroad. However, President Obama previously spoke on the record about the drone program, which frees the current press secretary in some respect.

Carney has said the strikes were “necessary to mitigate ongoing attacks” and argued “they are legal, they are ethical, and they are wise.”

On Sunday, Gibbs said he had not discussed transparency over the program with the president, but believed Obama saw an advantage in discussing the drone strikes more openly.

MSNBC boldly moves to plug its one remaining hole

By hiring long-time Obama spokesmen Robert Gibbs and David Axelrod, the cable news network clarifies its function

Last month, MSNBC‘s Al Sharpton conducted a spirited debate about whether Obama belongs on Mount Rushmore or instead deserves a separate monument to his greatness (just weeks before replacing frequent Obama critic Cenk Uygur as MSNBC host, Sharpton publicly vowed never to criticize Barack Obama under any circumstances: a vow he has faithfully maintained). Earlier that day on the same network, a solemn discussion was held, in response to complaints from MSNBC viewers, about whether it is permissible to ever allow Barack Obama’s name to pass through one’s lips without prefacing it with an honorific such as “President” or “the Honorable” or perhaps “His Excellency” (that really did happen).

Yesterday, Chris Matthews – who infamously confessed that listening to Obama (sorry: President Obama) gives him a “thrill going up his leg” – hosted another discussion, this one involving former Obama campaign aide and MSNBC contributor Joy Reid, about whether the Honorable President should be mounted on Mount Rushmore (Matthews restrained himself by explaining that “I’m not talking about Mt. Rushmore but perhaps the level right below it”, but then shared this fantasy: “If [Obama] were hearing us talking about him maybe mounting Mount Rushmore, getting up there with the great presidents…what would he be thinking? ‘That’s exactly what I’m doing?'”). A Pew poll found that in the week leading up to the 2012 election, MSNBC did not air a single story critical of the President or a single positive story about Romney – not a single one – even as Fox aired a few negative ones about Romney and a few positive ones about Obama. Meanwhile, Obama campaign aides who appeared on MSNBC were typically treated with greater deference than that shown to the British Queen when one of her most adoring subjects is in her presence for the first time.

Surveying this assembled data, one does not need to be a veteran cable news executive to see what MSNBC has been so sorely lacking: people who loyally defend President Obama. Thankfully, MSNBC is now boldly fixing that glaring problem; they began two weeks ago with this:

“Former White House press secretary Robert Gibbs has become a contributor for MSNBC. Rachel Maddow introduced Gibbs as a new member of her network’s stable in the final minutes before President Obama’s State of the Union address on Tuesday night. . . . Gibbs was White House press secretary from 2009 to early 2011, when he left to become a senior campaign adviser for Obama’s re-election.”

I wonder: does someone who goes from being an Obama White House spokesman and Obama campaign official to being an MSNBC contributor even notice that they changed jobs?

But MSNBC wasn’t content merely to hire Obama’s former Press Secretary; today they did this:

Journalist rips ‘pro-life’ Republicans for seeking to cut infant nutrition program

While discussing the looming sequestration on MSNBC, journalist David Cay Boyle Johnston slammed Republicans for supporting cuts to a federal program that provides food to the infants of poor mothers.

“Six hundred thousand pregnant women and mothers of small children will be cut from the [Women, Infants and Children (WIC) nutrition program],” he said. “The Republicans are always telling us about their reverence for life. Really? They are going to have 600,000 poor women and children not have proper food.”

“There is a lifetime effect on development, especially mental development, if you don’t have proper nutrition in the womb and when you’re an infant, but they are determined to cut those poor children — who are helpless — out of good nutrition.”

The House of Representatives authorized a suspension of the nation’s debt limit through mid-May, delaying a default on the government’s obligations that would have taken effect in February.

The House of Representatives has passed the extension of the US debt limit to May 19 with a vote of 285 to 144. The measure moves on to the Senate for final passage. MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell reports.

The GOP-controlled House voted 285 to 144 to comfortably pass a three-month extension in the government’s borrowing authority just as Senate Democratic leaders suggested they would take up and pass the legislation as soon as they could.

The vote early Wednesday afternoon by the House would forestall a default on the national debt. The Treasury Department had warned that the government would exhaust its authority to borrow to finance its existing obligations by the middle of February.

The bill, which Republican leaders unveiled last week, would suspend the debt limit through May 18 and require both the House and the Senate to produce and pass a budget resolution in the meanwhile, with a deadline of April 15. If either chamber fails to pass a budget, its pay would be put into escrow – “No Budget, No Pay” goes the newly-minted Republican slogan to describe this strategy.
