China has warned the United States against meddling in Hong Kong’s internal affairs after Vice President Joe Biden met with two former Hong Kong legislators who expressed concern that Beijing is tightening control over the territory.

Biden met with Anson Chan, former chief secretary and founder of pro-democracy group Hong Kong 2020, and Martin Lee – founder of Hong Kong’s opposition Democratic Party – at the White House on Friday.

During the meeting, the activists spoke out against whey they described as Beijing’s increasing control over Hong Kong. They also said they fear that only candidates picked by the central government will be allowed to take part in the 2017 chief executive vote. Lee and Chan also voiced concerns over press freedom in Hong Kong – referring to violent assaults on journalists and alleging that Beijing is pressuring advertisers to shun critical media, AFP reported.

Vice President Biden underscored Washington’s “long-standing support for democracy in Hong Kong and for the city’s high degree of autonomy under the ‘one country, two systems’ framework,” the White House said in a statement.

In response, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it “firmly opposes any countries meddling in the city’s internal affairs in any way,” South China Morning Post quoted.

Hong Kong affairs are China’s internal affairs,” said a spokesperson for the Office of the Commissioner of the Foreign Ministry in Hong Kong.

The official added that Hong Kong is currently going through a sensitive political reform period.

[We] would hope the US would be cautious of their words and actions regarding Hong Kong affairs and not let Hong Kong issues impede Sino-American relations,” he noted.

A senior US National Security Council staffer has been fired for using an anonymous Twitter account to send hundreds of messages criticizing the Obama administration from inside the White House.

Jofi Joseph, a director in the nuclear non-proliferation team inside the NSC, was let go a week ago after administration officials spent months investigating who was tweeting from @natsecwonk. The account opened in February 2011 and lasted until last week, sending thousands of tweets critical of Obama’s policies, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and various high level officials in the interim.

Two sources in the administration confirmed to The Daily Beast that Joseph, 40, was behind the account. The staffer was a member of the NSC team that sat across the negotiating table from Iran in Istanbul earlier this year.

“Is it just me, or with the Jews celebrating Rosh Hashanah tonight, is Twitter much quieter?” he once wrote.

What’s so disturbing about the Hillary dancing photo is the high-def resolution of Ben Rhodes’ balding pate. And Jake Sullivan behind him,” another read, referencing US President Obama’s deputy national security advisor and speechwriter as well as Vice President Joe Biden’s national security advisor.

NSC aide admits Twitter attack on White House

A senior National Security Council staffer who was a key member of the White House team negotiating on Iran’s nuclear weapons program told POLITICO he deeply regrets tweeting hundreds of anti-administration messages under the pseudonym @natsecwonk.

Jofi Joseph, 40, was fired from his job on the NSC nuclear non-proliferation team a week ago after a months-long probe into a barrage of tweets that included caustic criticisms of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and top NSC officials, especially Ben Rhodes – whom he accused of dodging questions about Benghazi.

“It has been a privilege to serve in this Administration and I deeply regret violating the trust and confidence placed in me,” Joseph told POLITICO in an email.

“What started out as an intended parody account of DC culture developed over time into a series of inappropriate and mean-spirited comments.  I bear complete responsibility for this affair and I sincerely apologize to everyone I insulted.”

(Also on POLITICO: White House official fired for tweets)

Obama spokesman Eric Schultz confirmed that Joseph  had left the White House – and that he no longer had his top security clearances.

In the course of their investigations, officials also told Joseph they suspected he was responsible for a second anonymous Twitter account “@dchobbyist” which included racier tweets about sexual encounters, escort services – and the inner workings of the State Department.

“Wow, you look amazingly sexy in this photo!” the @dchobbyist wrote in an Oct. 5th post.

“That was him,” a person briefed on the probe told POLITICO.

Joseph didn’t respond to a request for comment on the second account.

Joseph, who was part of the White House team that opened up preliminary negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program in Istanbul earlier this year, lived a double life, working with NSC officials and State Department higher-ups on the most sensitive issues while secretly tweet-bombing them with comments like: “’Has shitty staff.’ #ObamaInThreeWords.”

For months, White House and State department officials searched for @NatSecWonk, a hunt that intensified after he repeatedly expressed doubts about the official administration accounts about the Sept. 11, 2012 attack in Benghazi.

After a probe that included an investigation into Joseph’s travel and shopping patterns – parsed from over 2,000 tweets – lawyers from the White House counsel’s office confronted Joseph and ordered him to leave the executive complex, according to two sources familiar with the situation. Joseph had been scheduled to rotate out of White House duty to a senior job in the Pentagon, an administration official told POLITICO.

The revelation that Joseph was @natsecwonk came as a shock because Joseph was a familiar figure in the foreign policy world – as is his wife Carolyn Leddy, a highly-regarded staffer on the Republican side of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, according to Daily Beast reporter Josh Rogin.

WASHINGTON August 29, 2013 (AP)
By JOSH LEDERMAN Associated Press

Months after gun control efforts crumbled in Congress, Vice President Joe Biden stood shoulder to shoulder Thursday with the attorney general and the top U.S. firearms official and declared the Obama administration would take two new steps to curb American gun violence.

But the narrow, modest scope of those steps served as pointed reminders that without congressional backing, President Barack Obama’s capacity to make a difference is severely inhibited.

Still, Biden renewed a pledge from him and the president to seek legislative fixes to keep guns from those who shouldn’t have them — a pledge with grim prospects for fulfillment amid the current climate on Capitol Hill.

“If Congress won’t act, we’ll fight for a new Congress,” Biden said in the Roosevelt Room of the White House. “It’s that simple. But we’re going to get this done.”

One new policy will bar military-grade weapons that the U.S. sells or donates to allies from being imported back into the U.S. by private entities. In the last eight years, the U.S. has approved 250,000 of those guns to come back to the U.S., the White House said, arguing that some end up on the streets. From now on, only museums and a few other entities like the government will be eligible to reimport military-grade firearms.

The ban will largely affect antiquated, World War II-era weapons that, while still deadly, rarely turn up at crime scenes, leaving some to question whether the new policy is much ado about nothing.

“Banning these rifles because of their use in quote-unquote crimes is like banning Model Ts because so many of them are being used as getaway cars in bank robberies,” said Ed Woods, a 47-year-old from the Chico area of northern California.

Woods said he collects such guns because of their unique place in American history. He now wonders whether he’ll be prohibited from purchasing the type of M1 Garand rifle his father used during World War II. The U.S. later sold thousands of the vintage rifles to South Korea.

“Someday my kids will have something that possibly their grandfather, who they never had a chance to meet, is connected to,” Woods said in an interview.

The Obama administration is also proposing to close a loophole that it says allows felons and other ineligible gun purchasers to skirt the law by registering certain guns to a corporation or trust. The new rule would require people associated with those entities, like beneficiaries and trustees, to undergo the same type of fingerprint-based background checks before the corporation can register those guns.

Using the rule-making powers at his disposal, Obama can only place that restriction on guns regulated under the National Firearm Act, a 1934 law that only deals with the deadliest weapons, like machine guns and short-barreled shotguns. For the majority of weapons, there is no federal gun registration.

“It’s simple, it’s straightforward, it’s common sense,” Biden said of the measures he unveiled Thursday as he swore in Obama’s new director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Todd Jones.

The quick reproach from gun control opponents, however, underscored that the same forces that thwarted gun control efforts in Congress have far from mellowed on the notion of stricter gun laws in the future.

Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa says Russia will make the decision about the destination of American intelligence whistleblower who has holed up in an airport in Moscow.

“At this moment, the solution of Snowden’s destination is in the hands of Russian authorities,” Correa said in an interview with the private Oromar channel late Saturday.

Snowden arrived in Moscow’s international airport from Hong Kong last Sunday. The U.S. has revoked his passport to prevent him from travelling. However, he has applied for asylum in Ecuador.

According to the law in Ecuador, asylum requests can be processed only when the applicant is in Ecuadorian territories.

Snowden, a former analyst at the National Security Agency, has revealed top secret intelligence documents about the U.S. surveillance programs in the country and abroad. He faces charges of espionage and theft of government property.

Correa said Snowden has requested asylum in Ecuador on the advice of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange who released hundreds of thousands of U.S. classified documents three years ago. Also wanted by the U.S., Assange has taken refuge at the Ecuadorian embassy in London since last year.

Correa spoke with U.S. Vice President Joe Biden early Saturday. In his weekly address, the Ecuadorian leader said Biden had asked him to “please reject” Snowden’s asylum request. He said he would consult the U.S. on making any decision about the application but added Quito would have the final say regarding the issue.

Corporate Control and Double Standards

Rafael Correa, the Press, and Whistleblowers

Once again, we are witnessing a growing frustration with “tiny” Ecuador. The United States government is clearly not happy with what would be the latest diplomatic slap in the face coming from the South American country, i.e. the pending arrival of NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden in the coming days. Beyond the United States’ government though, the US press corps are also seemingly up in arms. Why are they so angry? Well, it appears that they are indignant over the perceived hypocrisy of President Rafael Correa.

Claims of Hypocrisy

According to an article from The Atlantic (and another similar one from NPR here), the Ecuadorian leader “has created a safe space for foreigners like Assange — and now possibly Snowden –[but] he doesn’t do the same for dissenters within his own country.” News agencies like NBC News and The Atlantic think this is “interesting” and want to know ‘Why Ecuador?’ Such inquiries naturally turn to the NGOs, who are also less than pleased with this unruly little country. Freedom House, the Committee to Protect Journalists and others are upset that this very week, the one-year anniversary of Assange being holed up in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London (and the same week that the Snowden asylum request is being reviewed), the Ecuadorian National Assembly has passed a Communications Bill that detractors claim is a major blow to a free press.

For several of the opposition figures and US-based observers, Ecuador’s new media legislation has sealed the deal on the stasi-like state that they imply or openly charge Correa has been dreaming about for years. In other words, transparency advocates like Assange and Snowden are compromising their credibility by associating with the Correa government. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, the right-wing terrorist supporter/US Congresswoman representing Miami, has been busy tweeting as much. The Ecuadorian government, however, asserts that the bill is meant to place more media power in the hands of public groups and move away from privately owned media monopolies.

Meanwhile, the Council of Hemispheric Relations, Center for Strategic and International Studies, and the Heritage Foundation all say that Ecuador must be punished for this latest insult to the US government. James Roberts of Heritagelashed out at the South American leader on June 24, writing in the National Review Online:

“Rafael Correa has demonstrated a blatant disregard for international standards of justice. That kind of conduct may not be surprising from a man who seeks to don the mantle of Chávez, but it should not be rewarded with trade preferences.”

It doesn’t take much imagination to understand how a figure like Correa would have been dealt with a few decades back, but it appears that the more heavy-handed approach is not really possible at the moment, much to the dismay of the powerful and connected.

Returning to the issue of freedom, has the defiant president of Ecuador used the National Assembly to pass a law that NPR, The Atlantic and others tell us will be used to make the country less transparent and more hostile to journalists who only wish to be free to monitor the government and act as a check on state power? Well, let’s hold off on the most absurd elements of irony here for a moment and address the issue at hand.

About a Coup

It should certainly not be regarded as a good thing if the case was simply a cut-and-dry example of authoritarian overreach. Freedom of the press, as we are learning with the Snowden case, has seemingly never before been so important, or so contentious for that matter. However, the Ecuadorian issue is not so simple and it was certainly complicated after a day of crisis nearly three years earlier when factions of the National Police and armed forces attacked the president of Ecuador on September 30, 2010. The event was widely regarded as a coup attempt. What exactly went down is still somewhat unclear. There was a dramatic showdown between Correa himself and police officers that were angered by a supposed attempt to cut their pay. What is for certain, though, is that it was a countrywide, well-coordinated attempt to shut down the National Assembly, the two major airports in Guayaquil and Quito and eventually a hospital where the president was being treated for wounds. Furthermore, the plotters were also attacking journalists throughout the country, and most of these were pro-government reporters working for public media outlets.

The opposition press has taken an active role in attempts to discredit Correa since he first ran for president. He has elaborated on his views of the press and they are certainly not very congenial. In 2012, during a public TV interview in Spain, Correa said, “one of the main problems around the world is that there are private networks in the communication business, for-profit businesses providing public information, which is very important for society. It is a fundamental contradiction.”

One of the issues that NGOs and journalists have cited in their litany of complaints about Ecuador’s endangered freedom of the press actually stems from the 2010 police and military uprising. During the chaos that ensued during the alleged coup attempt, one reporter from the paper of record in Guayaquil took the opportunity to claim that Correa had ordered police to fire on a crowd of innocent onlookers caught up in the melee, presumably aiming to provoke anti-government sentiments. The claim turned out to be completely unsubstantiated. The government fined the journalist and his paper El Universo some $40 million for defamation but later withdrew the charges. Consider what might have happened in the US if the Los Angeles Times or Washington Post would have falsely claimed that Barack Obama had personally ordered military or police forces to fire on a crowd of protesters and innocent people were injured as a result somewhere in Washington, D.C It would be difficult to imagine a reporter and his editors ever committing such a stupid move, but if they had, there would have been some serious consequences. Alas, this is not really too shocking in the context of a sensationalist Latin American press.

Ecuador offers U.S. rights aid, waives trade benefits

QUITO | Thu Jun 27, 2013 10:06am EDT

(Reuters) – Ecuador’s leftist government thumbed its nose at Washington on Thursday by renouncing U.S. trade benefits and offering to pay for human rights training in America in response to pressure over asylum for former intelligence contractor Edward Snowden.

The angry response threatens a showdown between the two nations over Snowden, and may burnish President Rafael Correa’s credentials to be the continent’s principal challenger of U.S. power after the death of Venezuelan socialist leader Hugo Chavez.

“Ecuador will not accept pressures or threats from anyone, and it does not traffic in its values or allow them to be subjugated to mercantile interests,” government spokesman Fernando Alvarado said at a news conference.

In a cheeky jab at the U.S. spying program that Snowden unveiled through leaks to the media, the South American nation offered $23 million per year to finance human rights training.

The funding would be destined to help “avoid violations of privacy, torture and other actions that are denigrating to humanity,” Alvarado said. He said the amount was the equivalent of what Ecuador gained each year from the trade benefits.

“Ecuador gives up, unilaterally and irrevocably, the said customs benefits,” he said.

An influential U.S. senator on Wednesday said he would seek to end those benefits if Ecuador gave Snowden asylum.

Snowden, 30, is believed to be at Moscow’s international airport and seeking safe passage to Ecuador.

Ecuador tells U.S. to send its position on Snowden in writing

WASHINGTON | Wed Jun 26, 2013 11:29am EDT

(Reuters) – Ecuador said on Wednesday the United States must “submit its position” regarding Edward Snowden to the Ecuadorean government in writing as it considers the former U.S. spy agency contractor’s request for asylum.

Ecuador, in a statement from its embassy in Washington, said it would review the request “responsibly.”

“The legal basis for each individual case must be rigorously established, in accordance with our national Constitution and the applicable national and international legal framework. This legal process takes human rights obligations into consideration as well,” the statement said.

“This current situation is not being provoked by Ecuador,” the embassy said.

Snowden, 30, a former employee of the U.S. contractor Booz Allen Hamilton, appears to be still in hiding at a Moscow airport awaiting a ruling on his asylum request from the tiny South American nation’s leftist government.

MOSCOW | Wed Jun 26, 2013 6:10am EDT

(Reuters) – A former U.S. spy agency contractor sought by Washington on espionage charges appeared on Wednesday to be still in hiding at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport and the national airline said he was not booked on any of its flights over the next three days.

Edward Snowden fled to Hong Kong after leaking details of secret U.S. government surveillance programs, then flew on to Moscow on Sunday, evading a U.S. extradition request. President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday he was in the transit area of the airport and he had no intention of handing him to Washington.

“They are not flying today and not over the next three days,” an Aeroflot representative at the transfer desk at Sheremetyevo said when asked whether Snowden and his legal adviser, Sarah Harrison, were due to fly out on Wednesday.

Ecuador denounces US ‘double standards’

Sun Jun 30, 2013 2:1AM

Ecuador’s president Rafael Correa

Ecuador’s President Rafael Correa has denounced U.S. “double standards” over granting asylum to fugitives.

Correa said Saturday that U.S. Vice President Joe Biden had asked him in a telephone call not to grant asylum to Edward Snowden, the fugitive former CIA contractor wanted in the U.S.

In a weekly television address, Correa rebuked the Obama administration for hypocrisy, pointing to the case of brothers Roberto and William Isaias, both of them bankers, whom Ecuador is seeking to extradite from the U.S.

“Let’s be consistent,” Correa said. “Have rules for everyone, because that is a clear double-standard here.”

Earlier this month, Snowden revealed massive U.S. surveillance programs sparking a scandal in America. Washington is now seeking the extradition of the leaker, charged with espionage and theft of government property in his home country.

Snowden is currently in the transit zone of a Moscow airport. Reports say he could consider seeking asylum from Ecuador, where he was planning to travel to after leaving Russia.

“The moment that he arrives, if he arrives, the first thing is we’ll ask the opinion of the United States, as we did in the Assange case with England,” Correa said in his television address. “But the decision is ours to make.”

Julian Assange, founder of the whistleblower website WikiLeaks, has been given asylum in Ecuador’s embassy in London. Wikileaks revealed classified documents it received from former U.S. Army soldier Bradley Manning, who was arrested in May 2010 in Iraq.

Secret documents provided by Snowden show the United States has spied on various European Union institutions and offices as well.

German news magazine Der Spiegel reported on Saturday that the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA), bugged offices and spied on EU internal computer networks in Washington, New York and Brussels.

Missing the target USA. 49150.jpeg

The NRA made a good point in their TV commercial that comrade Obama’s family is protected by guards but Obama does not want America’s children protected. Governor “Brown Noser” Christie did not like the ad whatsoever saying, “It’s awful to bring public figures’ children into the political debate.” I guess he forgot about the children at Sandy Hook and the living children who need to be guarded. He also forgot that Obama used children himself to promote gun control while killing more children with drones. What did the majority of Americans do? Support Obama or buy more guns? Their efforts and conclusions vary but they continually missed the target.

The NRA is right, Obama is an “Elitist Hypocrite” but he is actually worse than that. He is a liar and a murderer causing chaos in America and the world. Obama’s sins multiply more than Dorian Gray’s but people still think he looks good. Looking good is all that matters in America, right? The list goes on: he raised taxes on everyone when he said he would not; killing innocent people with drones; executive privilege in “Fast and Furious“; the so called “Arab Spring“; promoting abortions; lying to Russia and pointing missiles at us; paying off his communist buddies to hire Russians to protest against Putin; no effort to lower the US debt by even one penny, etc.. Yet, most people still love him in the US. Those against him stand firm. Obama and those who own him cannot force Americans to give up their guns now, but he will eventually.

Kill one and the herd will stampede in the direction you want them to go. The US government may have massacred its own people killing their own citizens like in the ex-Soviet Union. However, they cannot just simply take away all the guns today. If they did all Americans would sober up and fight. Instead, according to the Communist plan, the government needs to persuade and establish laws to destroy the 2nd amendment year by year. Sandy Hook was a hoax per citizen journalist Brendan Hunt. I tend to listen to a citizen journalist rather than the mainstream media. Hoax or tragedy as other past shootings were, they seemed senseless but had a diabolical purpose. Massacres to herd the masses to accept gun control. It is just the beginning. The massacre of the innocents. Real or not they have their purpose.

What did most Americans do? I saw people on TV who felt guns were the evil culprit. Perhaps they preferred murder in another way like being pushed out of windows. Those people might prefer murder by knives or drugs since it is quieter and maybe more popular. It certainly is cheaper. Some felt guns promoted violence as though throughout history men have always had guns. Yes, that’s why the Romans had wars. Caesar had an AK47 with him always. You know, if Genghis Khan didn’t have that AR15, so many people would not have been killed. Tell old Joe Biden if there had been gun laws in the old West the Civil War never would have happened and the Native Americans never would have fought with each other before the Europeans came. It’s so true because a movie star said so.

I heard useless laws by a useless president and people buying more guns. I can understand why people bought more guns as they can clearly see Obama’s intention. I agree they need to protect themselves. Obama obviously does not want to guard children in schools. It’s too expensive. He feels it’s cheaper to have more kids than to prevent their deaths. He’s just trying to reduce America’s debt. He feels the coffins are smaller and therefore economical. All Americans should be against him because of that. There were no major protests in Washington last week and I definitely did not see a major movement to restore America’s soul.

“Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight his paths” are words we should live by daily.  However, prayer, penance and fasting are not the norm in a country in dire straits. America was a country of religious freedom. “In the beginning of the contest with Britain, when we were sensible of danger, we had daily prayers in this room for Divine protection. Our prayers, Sir, were heard, and they were graciously answered… do we imagine we no longer need His assistance?” – Benjamin Franklin. In today’s America, an atheist or the ACLU would have sued Franklin.

At least two killed in Boston Marathon blasts, 100+ injured, additional unexploded devices reported

At least two people are dead following a pair of explosions in Boston, Massachusetts where thousands of runners are participating in the annual Boston Marathon. Local media report over 100 people have been injured as well.

Preliminary reports suggest two explosions occurred near the finish line of the 26.2-mile event shortly before 3 pm local time, and the Boston Globe is reporting two deaths and more than 100 injuries.

Follow RT’s Live Updates on the blasts.

Some media have reported that a suspect is in custody at a Boston hospital, though the claim has not been officially confirmed. A source told the New York Post that a 20-year-old Saudi Arabian national was under guard at the hospital, though it was not made clear whether or not he was injured.

Federal aviation authorities have declared a no-fly zone over the area and authorities including the US Air Force continue to attempt to secure the scene. The aviation restrictions have reportedly extended to an order that all flights out of Boston’s Logan Airport be grounded until further notice.

An intelligence official working on the scene told the Associated Press that two additional explosive devices were found inside garbage cans near the site, and are being dismantled by a bomb squad.

As law enforcement look for further explosives, they have reportedly told people in the area to stay off of mobile phones in fears that the signal could detonate another undiscovered device.

The Boston Police Department has not to confirmed claims of other, higher numbers of deaths. Meanwhile a source at Boston’s Mass General hospital claimed that at least 10 patients have been admitted to the facility’s emergency room with missing limbs after the accident.

An explosion hit Boston’s John F. Kennedy Library as well Monday afternoon, with Boston’s police commissioner saying law enforcement officials were “not certain” if it was related to the blasts at the marathon, though they were treating them as if  they are.”

The Boston Marathon’s headquarters have reportedly put on locked down while authorities investigate the incident. Both US President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden have been made aware of the tragedy.

“Obama has directed administration to provide whatever assistance is necessary in the investigation and response,” a White House official tells the Globe.

Eyewitnesses say smoke filled the streets of the city after a first explosion, and seconds later another loud boom was heard.

“I saw two explosions. The first one was beyond the finish line. I heard a loud bang and I saw smoke rising,” Boston Herald reporter Chris Cassidy says from the scene. “I kept running and I heard behind me a loud bang. It looked like it was in a trash can or something.”

“There are people who have been hit with debris, people with bloody foreheads,” he says.

Witness Andrea Storer adds to the Globe, “It was huge. There had to be people killed. There had to be.”

“Blood everywhere,” another witness tells the paper.

The event has been put on hold and paramedics are quickly trying to assess the situation.

Earlier in the afternoon, 23-year-old Ethiopian runner Lelisa Desisa came in first-place by completing the run in 2 hours, 10 minutes and 22 seconds. At the time of the explosions, though, hundreds of runners were still racing for the finish line.

Organizers call the event the “world’s oldest annual marathon and one of the world’s most prestigious road races.”

The explosions at the Boston Marathon went off more than four hours after the start of the men’s race, which meant that there were still several thousand runners yet to finish the race.
The Associated Press reported that the authorities were helping injured runners leave the scene and bloody spectators were being carried to a medical tent that was being used for runners.

The A.P. said that a loud explosion was heard on the north side of Boylston Street, near a photo bridge that marks the finish line. Another explosion was heard several seconds later.

A third explosion was heard just before 4 p.m., about an hour after the first two blasts. The police were apparently aware of that device before the explosion occurred.

The Associated Press, citing an intelligence official, said that two other devices were found at the marathon area and that they were being dismantled. People were also being cleared from an area around the Copley Plaza Hotel after a package was found on a footbridge nearby.

The first blasts took place about four hours after the start of the men’s race, which meant that there were still several thousand runners yet to finish the course. Several news outlets reported that a loud explosion was heard on the north side of Boylston Street, near a photo bridge that marks the finish line. Another explosion was heard shortly afterward.

The Boston police confirmed at a late afternoon news conference that they were investigating the explosions. A senior United States government official said that the Boston police and the F.B.I. had received no reports in recent days about a threatened attack on the marathon and that there was no warning on Monday.

The Associated Press reported that authorities were helping injured runners leave the scene and that bloodied spectators were being carried to a medical tent that was being used for runners.

Eyewitnesses said the explosions were about 15 seconds apart. A few runners stopped and turned around after they heard the blasts. Some runners were seen crying and some said they saw limbs on the ground. Runners were directed to the runners’ meeting area and hotels several blocks away.

Boston Marathon Blast LIkely False Flag

Three bombs, one failed, two detonated within seconds. Wolf Blitzer of CNN quickly linked Patriots in Boston. This will likely be blamed on conservatives. If it is, more false flags will come. If you are a vet, gun owner, conservative, etc…, watch your six. Word is there might be more undetonated devices in Boston.

Here we go – CNN Wolf Blitzer blames anti-tax group or tea party for Boston Marathon explosion

Seems there is no video to confirm Wolf Blitzer blamed an anti-tax group or the tea party for the Boston Marathon bombings. Instead, there’s a video of Blitzer the hack speculating it happened because it was Patriot’s Day in Massachusetts or something.

RAW FOOTAGE: Terrorism Strikes Boston Marathon As Bombs Explode 2013

Published on Apr 15, 2013

Two bombs struck near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday, turning a celebration into a bloody scene of destruction.

The blasts threw people to the ground, killing two and injuring dozens.

The Boston Globe reported that at least 90 people were being treated at area hospitals.
White House area on lockdown after blasts CNN producer: Heard big boom, saw smoke Blasts near Boston Marathon finish line Eyewitness: People ‘very badly hurt’

The terrorist attack, near the marathon’s finish line, triggered widespread screaming and chaos, shattered windows and barricades and sent smoke billowing into the air at Copley Square.

They were about 50 to 100 yards apart, officials said.
“It felt like a huge cannon,” a witness told CNN about one of the blasts.

Photos from the scene showed people being carried away on stretchers. One man in a wheelchair had blood all over his face and legs.

The bombs shook buildings, sending people to seek shelter under tables, witnesses said.

Boston Marathon Explosions Caught On Film

Published on Apr 15, 2013

At least two people have been killed and 23 others hurt after two explosions near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, police have said.

There was also a third blast at the JFK library a few miles away but no injuries were reported.

The blasts at the marathon took place about two hours after the winners crossed the line, with one explosion on the north side of Boylston Street, just before the photo bridge that marks the finish.

Another happened a few seconds later, about 50-100 metres away, believed to be further down the street.

Some runners were making their way across the finish line as the drama unfolded, and TV helicopter footage showed blood on the pavement in the popular shopping and tourist area known as the Back Bay.

Fox News reports authorities are guarding a ‘person of interest’ in hospital with severe burns.

The injured were treated at the scene

Participants were seen lying on the ground as the explosions tore through the finish line, sending smoke and debris soaring into the air.

A senior US intelligence official said two other explosive devices found nearby were being dismantled.

According to the Boston Marathon website, there were more than 25,000 registered entrants in the race, 374 of whom are British and there were also 108 Irish athletes.

It is not known what caused the blasts but Fox News reported ball bearings were found on the street.

Mark White said: “The ball bearings are likely to be shrapnel, leading to a growing suspicion the blasts were deliberate.”

Some runners who had not finished the race were diverted down Commonwealth Avenue and into a family meeting area, according to an emergency plan.

The Federal Aviation Administration has warned pilots it had created a no-fly zone over the site.

Runners and race volunteers were crying as they fled the chaos. Smoke rose from the explosions, through flags lining the route of the world’s oldest and most prestigious marathon.

British police are now reviewing security plans for this Sunday’s London Marathon after the US blasts.

Video footage has emerged which appeared to show the moment one of the explosions happened.

Police made their way through competitors as they ran towards the scene, and injured spectators were being carried to the medical tent that had been set up to care for tired runners.

Roupen Bastajian, a 35-year-old state trooper, had just finished the race when they put the heat blanket wrap on him and he heard the first blast.

“I started running toward the blast. And there were people all over the floor,” he said.

“We started grabbing tourniquets and started tying legs. A lot of people amputated. … At least 25 to 30 people have at least one leg missing, or an ankle missing, or two legs missing.”

A police officer was taken from the course with a leg injury that was bleeding.

“There are people who are really, really bloody,” said Laura McLean, a runner from Toronto, who was in the medical tent being treated for dehydration when she was pulled out to make room for victims of the explosions.

Boston Police have told people to stay at home and avoid large crowds.

The Marathon sports store was reportedly near where one of the blasts took place.

There were two boom sounds heard from inside the Fairmount Copley Plaza Hotel. Race officials locked the building down.

The White House said President Barack Obama has been notified about the explosions.

The administration said it is in contact with state and local authorities and the president told his administration to provide whatever assistance is necessary in the investigation and response.

New York police have stepped up security around key landmarks in the city after the double blasts, a top officer said.

Foreign Secretary William Hague tweeted: “Appalled by news of explosion at Boston marathon. My thoughts are with everyone affected by it and all those waiting for news.”

Boston Police said there is a helpline in the US for concerned relatives : 617-635-4500, and anybody with information about the blasts should call 1-800-494-tips.

Senate Informed of Boston Explosions

Vice President Joe Biden warned Wednesday that the upcoming Senate vote was only the beginning of their gun control fight, a fight that concerns many who believe it may actually be aimed at eventually disarming millions of law-abiding citizens.

The warning, made during a conference call organized by gun-grabbing, globalist-backed Mayors Against Illegal Guns, is a stark reminder that, although the assault weapons ban has so far failed, the fight for the 2nd Amendment is far from over.

“That doesn’t mean this is the end of the process. This is the beginning of the process,” Biden was quoted as saying in a report by the Associated Press.

Despite overwhelming anger towards the planned banning of hundreds of weapons and the outright attack on guns in general, Biden went on to claim that they are simply following what the American people want.

“The American people are way ahead of their political leaders and we, the president and I and the mayors, intend to stay current with the American people.”

“We believe that weapons of war have no place on our streets,” Biden said.

Sadly, this tactic is being used throughout the corporate media with dozens of cable news pundits claiming over and over again that Americans want gun control, while using rigged polls taken by corporate companies to back their alarmist propaganda.

Meanwhile, President Obama appeared alongside mothers of gun victims on Thursday to once again use the horrific death of children as a backdrop to push the gun control agenda.

Described as an, “impassioned plea,” by the New York Times, Obama took to the podium, complete with perfectly angled sad mothers in the background who had just shared stories about their dead children, to demand a continued push for gun control, essentially indicating that if you support the mothers behind him then you will support the numerous gun control laws currently being put forward in Congress.

“Less than 100 days ago that happened, and the entire country was shocked and the entire country pledged we would do something about it and this time would be different,” Obama said.

“Shame on us if we’ve forgotten. I haven’t forgotten those kids. Shame on us if we’ve forgotten.”

“The notion that two months or three months after something as horrific as what happened in Newtown happens and we’ve moved on to other things?” “That’s not who we are. That’s not who we are. And I want to make sure every American is listening today.”

“We need everybody to remember how we felt 100 days ago and make sure that what we said at that time wasn’t just a bunch of platitudes, that we meant it.”

Obama then went on to use numerous fallacies in a psychological manipulation attempt, including the use of rigged statistics to put forth the idea that only a few crazies stand against his political agenda.

Obama to follow in footsteps of Hitler, Stalin with ‘executive order’ disarmament of the American people

Wednesday, January 09, 2013

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger
Editor of NaturalNews.com

(NaturalNews) It’s official. President Obama is going to march America down the dark halls of history by following in the footsteps of Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Mao Tse Tung and all the other gun-grabbing madmen who have exploited fear to achieve the total concentration of power in the hands of dictatorial government.

America is headed into civil war.

Vice President Joe Biden said today that disarming the American people and setting them up for government genocide is “acting responsibly.”

As published today in the Weekly Standard:

“The president is going to act,” said Biden, giving some comments to the press before a meeting with victims of gun violence. “There are executives orders, there’s executive action that can be taken. We haven’t decided what that is yet. But we’re compiling it all with the help of the attorney general and the rest of the cabinet members as well as legislative action that we believe is required.” Biden said that this is a moral issue and that “it’s critically important that we act.”

Biden talked also about taking responsible action. “As the president said, if you’re actions result in only saving one life, they’re worth taking. But I’m convinced we can affect the well-being of millions of Americans and take thousands of people out of harm’s way if we act responsibly.”

Biden is the guy who once promised, “Obama’s not getting my Beretta [shotgun].” Obama also made a campaign promise that he would never come after your guns. Now they’re both charging forward with a plot to completely disarm all the legal gun owners across America.

This is the moment when America either falls to tyrants or rises to resist it.

Matt Drudge sees what’s coming. DrudgeReport.com posted this headline earlier this morning, complete with pictures of Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin:

Gun grabbers actually want your guns so they can murder you with them

The real agenda of gun grabbers has now become crystal clear: They want to kill gun owners and anyone who doesn’t bow down to the Hitlerian madness of the Obama administration.

Last night on the Piers Morgan show on CNN, guests openly threatened Alex Jones’ children with being killed, and then one guest openly suggested that Piers Morgan shoot Alex Jones with an AR-15 — followed by laughter from the other guests on the show. It is a felony crime to threaten to murder a person, yet none of these guests who appeared on Piers Morgan have been arrested.

That astonishing video is available here:

This is nothing short of a death threat aired on national television. This is what the gun grabbers really want: to TAKE your guns so they can SHOOT you with them.

It’s all coming out. This is their true agenda: mass murder and / or genocide. Those who support gun disarmament of the American people are supporting mass murder: Michael Moore, Piers Morgan, Biden, Obama, Cuomo… they are all proponents of mass murder. They are the very same kind of people who once supported Hitler and Stalin, and now they’re creating a new Hitler in Barack Obama, the would-be dictator who is thrusting America straight into a new civil war.

Webster Tarpley: The Elite’s Plan for Global Extermination (FL-HD)

Vice President Joseph R. Biden, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and other gun control advocates insisted Wednesday that both momentum and public opinion are on their side, but recent polling shows Americans turning against stricter laws as more time elapses since the Newtown shootings.

Mr. Biden rallied gun control advocates ahead of a “day of action” organized by Mayors Against Illegal Guns, telling supporters that bans on so-called assault weapons and high-capacity magazines are “just the beginning.”

“Let me say this as clearly as I can: this is just the beginning,” he said on a conference call organized by the group, which is co-chaired by New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg. “We believe that weapons of war have no place on our streets. That’s the message that retired admirals and generals have spoken to us about. The comment one of them used was if you want to learn how to use a semiautomatic weapon, join the United States military. But these are weapons of war.”

President Obama is also scheduled to host mothers, victims of gun violence, law enforcement officials and others at an event at the White House on Thursday, and Brina Milikowski of MAIG said the group has more than 140 events planned in at least 29 states.

“The most important thing we can do in the lead-up to the vote in Congress in a couple weeks is to make our voices heard,” Ms. Milikowski said. “We know that Congress is paying attention — not just to the polls and to the news, but also to grass-roots events and mobile initiatives showing overwhelming support among Americans for common-sense public safety measures.”

But despite the proclamations, White House spokesman Josh Earnest struck a much more cautious tone Wednesday, saying the mere fact that the Senate will be voting on an assault weapons ban is a step in the right direction.

“I think because of all the talk of the president and because of his aggressive advocacy of this issue, there will be a vote in the United States Senate on whether or not military-style assault weapons will be banned from the streets of this country,” Mr. Earnest said. “I think that is — that represents progress.”

Though surveys show that a sizable majority of Americans continue to support individual measures like universal background checks, a new CBS News poll shows that only 47 percent of Americans support stricter gun control laws, compared to a high of 57 percent right after the December shootings in Connecticut. Further, a CNN poll from last week showed 43 percent of Americans support “major restrictions” or a complete ban on guns — down from 52 percent in December.

Anonymous Responds To Obama Executive Order Threat For Gun Control

When Lenin wanted to launch his own newspaper, he called it, “Vperod” or “Forward.” The name has popped up on the mastheads of left-wing newspapers across the world. It’s “Vorwarts” in Germany, “Voorwarts” in the Netherlands and “Ila al-Amam” in the Arab world. Back in New York it’s “The Forward.”

Is it  just  me or  does anyone else see the  Sadistic  Farce that is being perpetrated  upon the American  People?  So many  are ignorantly falling for  these mind games.

Yes, Newton  was a  tragedy  and  27 lives were  lost and  yes we should call for a  better  way  of protecting innocents.  However, it has been  brought  to light  at  naseum that  no matter how many  laws are passed only those who obey  the law will follow it’s mandates.  The  criminals , those outside the law  will continue  to  do   just as  they  have  done all along.  Breaking  the  law and taking innocent lives.

Is that  to  rational a thought   for the knee  jerk response crowd to handle?  Then  how about  this kind of rationale ? Those criminals  by the very act of being criminal could care less what the  law says   is  legal.  Perhaps if those who are  in  charge  of  enforcing the  laws would work harder to make   sure  the lawbreakers are  reigned in and that the laws  already  on the  books are adhered to . We  would go    quite a bit   further than by creating more laws  and  regulations that  will serve  only to  strangle the law abiding citizen.  While doing absolutely nothing  to address the amount  of illegal guns  already  on the streets.  Some of which  may  very  well  have  been  provided by the very same  law  enforcement   agencies  claiming to  prevent it.  Is that  such a  crazy  thought?

And just  who in the  hell does  he think he is to offer such  sanctimonious judgements  on  anyone?  Obama and his  Administration  have forgotten a tragedy  far  worse than  Newton.  How  many  of  those  who  are  calling  for these ridiculous measures have  also forgotten?  Conveniently forgotten so they have  no  remorse over  following the man   who has  not only  given aid and  assistance but  weaponry and the power  to  kill more innocent  victims to  the  criminals who  perpetrated  this tragedy  on  American  Soil.  The  very   same entities that were  used to  justify   the invasion  of a sovereign country and  an  endless  War  on  Terror.   The  hypocrisy  has   gone on  long enough  and people have forgotten the truth. It is  time  they  wake  up and understand one thing.  ANYONE  that  gives   aid  to the organization  known  as  Al Qaeda is not only guilty  of Terrorism, but of murder and any  American by  association is  guilty  of   Treason!!

Any American who forgets September 11th  and the  over 3000 lives lost that  day or the fact that   the   government  claimed that  it  was Al Qaeda  who  committed  the crime.  Anyone who goes  along  with  what   is  being done  around  the   world in the name of democracy by  putting money  and  weaponry  in the  hands of these murderers is a  Traitor, not only to their Country   but to  humanity.

Are  you  going to  allow  this hypocritical doublespeak to continue ?

Before you  say  to  yourself ,  that  you are innocent of the crimes being  perpetrated  by   your   government ……Understand that   with  your  silence you are complicit  with their  crimes of murder and  terror.

All that is necessary for evil to succeed is for good men/women to do nothing

It is  time for rational thinking and goodness to speak  up against the evil and crimes that  are  being perpetrated not only at  home but  abroad.  The time  has come to stand up and be counted.  No more of this “Do as I  say  and not as I   do”  garbage.  It is  time for the criminals to  be  held accountable.  Time for their enablers to be called to  task.   Time for us to  reclaim our   Republic….. The time has  come!!!

Do  not fool yourselves, if you  quietly support  the criminals who commit  these  crimes then  you are  as responsible as if you  pulled the  trigger or dropped the  bomb  yourself.  Understand that  and know  that  when all is said  and done you  will be held accountable for your  crimes!

Invoking Newtown, Obama presses Congress on guns

By Carrie Dann, NBC News

President Barack Obama on Thursday sternly rebuked opponents of pending gun control measures, accusing them of “running out the clock” and hoping that the nation forgets last year’s Newtown school shooting in order to keep popular reforms from passing into law.

“The entire country was shocked, and the entire country pledged we would do something about it and that that this time would be different,” the president said of the gun massacre that killed 20 children and six adults. “Shame on us if we’ve forgotten.”

Flanked by Vice President Joe Biden and a group of mothers who have lost their children to gun violence, Obama accused gun rights groups of rooting for amnesia.

President Barack Obama delivers remarks Thursday at the White House regarding gun reform in America.

“The reason we’re talking about it here today is because it’s not done until it’s done,” he said. “And there are some powerful voices on the other side that are interested in running out the clock or changing the subject or drowning out the majority of the American people to prevent any of these reforms from happening at all. They’re doing everything they can to make all our progress collapse under the weight of fear and frustration or their assumption is that people will just forget about it.”

Obama’s remarks came on the same day that authorities released new information about Newtown shooter Adam Lanza, including the list of guns and ammunition that he stockpiled for the attack. Lanza fired 154 bullets from a Bushmaster .223 caliber model XM15 rifle, the documents said.

Citing poll numbers that show broad support – as high as 90 percent in some polls — for universal background checks, the president urged voters to “make yourself unmistakenly heard” to members of Congress in the days before the Senate takes up gun legislation next month.

“I ask every American to find out where your member of Congress stands on these ideas,” he said. “If they’re not part of that 90% who agree that we should make it harder for a criminal or somebody with a severe mental illness to buy a gun, then you should ask them why not.”

The legislation working its way through the Senate has hit numerous snags, with the threat of a filibuster now looming from lawmakers who say the president’s framework would restrict Second Amendment rights.

Mainstream Media Hypes Up Mass Shootings To Further Stigmatize Gunowners With Red Herring of “Mental Illness”

| Mar 22, 2013

by Chris and Sheree Geo

In the wake of new information indicating that James Holmes (the alleged “Aurora shooter”) will be given “truth serum” in order to extract a confession or other information regarding the shooting, it is interesting to note how the mainstream media is “handling” these mass shootings in general: With blatant contempt for the freedom-lover, and utter disdain for the U.S. Constitution.

It’s almost too easy to see the agenda, here: The UN Arms Trade Treaty demands that the U.S. disarm its’ public before the economy collapses fully. The Obama Administration already signed off on it,  John Kerry approves of it, too, and Joe Biden’s waiting for it like a kid waiting for Santa Claus. According to Investor.com:

“Under the guise of adopting what it deems to be ‘appropriate measures,’ an Administration could restrict imports by redefining what qualifies as a ‘sporting’ firearm — the definition of which is left completely to the discretion of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives,” Heritage reports.

The ATT, Heritage warns, “could create a national registry (initially) limited to imported firearms. It could impose new requirements on importers of firearms, or parts and components of firearms, for example, by requiring them to provide the identity of the final end user.. .”

So, when you have an international treaty you just signed, and the public is opposing the new restrictions (or even a mention of them), what do you do? You leave it up to the media, of course! Once a mass shooting event occurs, they can be counted on to hype up the emotional rollercoaster and keep the audience worried about it, (while carefully inserting anti-gun propaganda), giving the families (and so-called “families”, but that’s another article altogether) affected by these tragedies – and the audience at home – no rest or time to digest what is going on.

Case in point: CBS News, last night, interviewing “family members” of those lost in the Newtown shooting:

Apparently, the point of this piece is two-fold, one being apparent, the other occult. First point: “We should lovingly accept and forgive the people whose kids shot our kids” (A relatively innocuous point). Occult meaning:”This tragedy wouldn’t have happened if mentally-ill kids were dealt with properly”.

Hyping up the mental illness factor in mass shootings has been one of the major goals of this particular Project Bluebird-like program. Unfortunately, as admitted in Medicine Net today,

Specifically, people who read a news story describing a mass shooting were more likely than those who did not read such an article to support gun restrictions for people with serious mental illness, and for a ban on large-capacity ammunition magazines.

“The aftermath of mass shootings is often viewed as a window of opportunity to garner support for policies to reduce gun violence, and this study finds public support for such policies increases after reading news stories about a mass shooting,” study lead author Emma McGinty, a doctoral candidate with the Center for Gun Policy and Research at Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, said in a Hopkins news release.

“However, we also found that the public’s negative attitudes toward persons with serious mental illness are exacerbated by news media accounts of mass shootings involving a shooter with mental illness,” she added.

This article came on the heels of the latest episode of Morning Joe, which is one of the most brilliant pieces of anti-gun propaganda I’ve seen in a while because it combines many different Bernays techniques and even allows for temporary “devil’s advocate” dialogue that tricks the viewer into thinking they’re actually witnessing a debate, instead of being programmed:

People With Mental Illnesses Aren’t Actually More Prone to Violence

By Guest Blogger on Dec 17, 2012 at 4:50 pm

In the aftermath of the recent mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT, Americans are once again considering the role that mental illness plays in violent crimes, and calling for improved care for the mentally ill to help reduce future gun violence. But although there are serious problems with the way mental illness and psychiatric disorders are treated in this country, future tragedies are unlikely to be avoided if improving mental health care is the only step this country takes to reduce gun violence.

It’s true that Jared Loughner and James Holmes — two men behind recent mass shootings in the United States — had documented histories of mental illness, but that isn’t enough evidence to make the broad conclusion that mentally ill individuals are predisposed to violent behavior or violent crimes. Despite popular perceptions, evidence actually suggests the mentally ill are no more prone to violence than the general population.

Between 92 and 96 percent of mental patients don’t have violent tendencies, and studies show the mentally ill are more likely to be the victims of violent crimes themselves than the criminal perpetrators. In fact, histories of substance abuse and other socio-demographic and economic factors are stronger determinants of violent behavior than psychiatric disorders. The contribution of the mentally ill to overall crime rates is an extremely low 3 to 5 percent, a number much lower than that of substance abuse.

Warehousing the Mentally Ill in Jails and Prisons is Criminal

A few weeks ago, there was a lot of buzz about a UPI report that jails are top mental health institutions.

From the article:

New York’s Riker’s Island, Chicago’s Cook County Jail and the Los Angeles County Jail are the largest mental health institutions in the nation, a study found.

Members of the International Association for Forensic and Correctional Psychology say 15 percent of the inmates of those three jails are mentally ill, making penal institutions — not hospitals — the three largest U.S. mental health institutions.

There was a lot of outrage expressed about this fact and rightly so.  This is the direct consequence of the de-institutionalization of mental health care in the late 70s through the mid-80s.  Many reformers pushed for the closing of asylums and wanted to treat people who suffered with mental illness in the community instead.  The sentiment was correct and humane however the resources did not follow as is so often the case with reforms.   As such, the mentally ill were abandoned first to the streets to join the ranks of the burgeoning homeless population and now to our jails.

I did not write about this issue when the article was published in mid-July because I needed some time to gather my thoughts and to process what it means to have penal institutions responsible for providing mental health treatment.  This issue first came into sharp relief for me when I watched a powerful, infuriating and ultimately tragic Frontline documentary called The New Asylums.

If you haven’t already watched this film, please take one hour out of your day to do so.  It lays out the intricacies of the issue of warehousing the mentally ill in jails and prisons.  The New Asylums was followed up with an equally good Frontline documentary called The Released which tells the story of mentally ill former prisoners struggling to survive on the outside.  Both films are available to be watched for free online.  The films humanize this social problem.  They make them visceral and accessible to the general public.

Jenn Ackerman & Tim Gruber also put a face to the statistics in their photo essay called Trapped: Mental Illness in America’s Prisons.

They preface their photos by writing:

The continuous withdrawal of mental health funding has turned jails and prisons across the nation into the default mental health facilities. The system designed for security is now trapped with treating mental illness and the mentally ill are often trapped inside the system with nowhere else to go.
