Exclusive: Key Congressmen Request Classified Briefing on Saudi ‘Person of Interest’ in Boston Bombing

House Committee on Homeland Security Requests More Info on Saudi National From Napolitano

The letter reads:

We are writing to request a classified briefing on Department of Homeland Security information and actions related to the case of the original person of interest in the terrorist attack at the Boston Marathon on Monday, April 22, 2013.

On Thursday, April 18th, you testified before the Committee on Homeland Security and responded to a question related to this individual’s immigration status by saying that you “were unaware of anyone being deported for national security concerns at all related to Boston.”  However, media reports have continued to raise concerns about this individual and adjustments that may have been made to his immigration status, including possible visa revocation and terrorist watch-listing, in the days following the bombing.

We request the Department provide a detailed overview of the records associated with this individual to include his law enforcement and immigration records prior to April 15, 2013, as well as his current status.  We request briefers from the Office of Intelligence and Analysis, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and Customs and Border Protection.

We appreciate your immediate attention to this issue and anticipate your prompt reply.

The committee says it has copies of the original deportation order, and has confirmed to TheBlaze and several other media outlets that the facts are as we reported last week.

Glenn Beck will break more news about the story during his Monday radio and television broadcasts.

US Congressmen Follow Up on Glenn Beck’s Boston Bombings ‘Saudi National’ Theory

article image

By Sarah Rae Fruchtnicht, Mon, April 22, 2013

The House Committee on Homeland Security has requested more information from Janet Napolitano on the Saudi national who was named the initial “person of interest” in the Boston bombings.

The committee formally requested a classified briefing from Napolitano on April 19, according to the letter published by TheBlaze.

This original suspect, named Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi, was reportedly set to be deported on Tuesday, according to Sean Hannity’s Fox News program. Alharbi was supposedly in violation of section 212 3B of the Immigration and Nationality Act, citing “security and related grounds” and “terrorist activities.”

Rep. Jeff Duncan, R-South Carolina, expressed concerns that the man, who was here on a student visa, was being deported “due to national security concerns.” The full exchange appears on YouTube.

Napolitano responded that she was not aware of “anyone who is being deported for national concerns at all related to Boston. I don’t know where that rumor come[s] from.”

“I’m not saying it’s related to Boston, but he is being deported,” Duncan continued.

Robocod: Homeland Security adds underwater drones to their arsenal with robots based on fish

  • Flexible body and fins allow it to dart around the water like a real fish

By Daniel Miller

The new robot, named BioSwimmer, is actually based not on a cod but a tuna which is said to have the ideal natural shape for an unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV).

Its ultra-flexible body coupled with mechanical fins and tail allow it to dart around the water just like a real fish even in the harshest of environments.

And while it does have a number of security applications, this high maneuverability makes it perfectly suited for accessing hard-to-reach places such as flooded areas of ships, sea chests and parts of oil tankers.

Other potential missions include inspecting and protecting harbors and piers, performing area searches and military applications.

BioSwimmer uses the latest battery technology for long-duration operation and boasts an array of navigation, sensor processing, and communications equipment designed for constricted spaces.

It is being developed by Boston Engineering Corporation’s Advanced Systems Group (ASG) basesd in Waltham, Massachusetts.

David Taylor, program manager for the project at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security told Fox News: ‘It’s all about distilling the science. It’s called ‘biomimetics.

‘We’re using nature as a basis for design and engineering a system that works exceedingly well.

‘Tuna have had millions of years to develop their ability to move in the water with astounding efficiency. Hopefully we won’t take that long.’

BioSwimmer is also capable of operating in high viscocity fluids such as crude oil, which could make it a valuable tool for off-shore drilling operations.

It can be controlled by an operator using a laptop computer but is also being designed to function autonomously.

AGS Director Mike Rufo added: ‘It’s designed to support a variety of tactical missions and with its interchangeable sensor payloads and reconfigurable Operator Controls, and can be optimized on a per-mission basis.’

Just before Hurricane Sandy, Obama signed executive order merging Homeland Security with private sector to create virtual dictatorship

security

by: Ethan A. Huff, staff writer

(NaturalNews) While all eyes were on Hurricane Sandy in the days leading up to the storm’s breach on the mainland of the Northeast, the White House was busy devising new ways to enslave Americans under the guise of protecting national security. On October 26, 2012, Barack Obama quietly signed an Executive Order (EO) establishing the so-called Homeland Security Partnership Council, a public-private partnership that basically merges the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) with local governments and the private sector for the implied purpose of giving the Executive Branch complete and limitless control over the American people.

One of the most effective ways by which the federal government has been able to spread its tendrils into every level of state, regional, and local governments in years past has been to continually convince the people that terrorism lurks around every corner, and that the federal government is needed to provide safety. This, of course, is how blatantly unconstitutional provisions like the Patriot Act and the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) were able to get passed with relative ease — without these draconian expansions of federal control over American affairs, the terrorists will win, we were all told.

White House forming nationwide secret police to monitor lives of Americans

This is precisely the angle being taken with the new EO, except it goes even further in conflating federal power structures with local governments and the private sector. Based on the eery language contained in the EO, the federal government appears ready to begin rapidly expanding its command and control operations at the local level by establishing a vast network of homeland security “partnerships” throughout the country, which will be tasked with reporting back to the central command center and feeding “intelligence” information as requested by federal officials.

“[W]e must tap the ingenuity outside government through strategic partnerships with the private sector, nongovernmental organizations, foundations, and community-based organizations,” says the EO. It goes on to add that the merger between the federal government and the private sector is necessary to facilitate the government’s desire to better “address homeland security priorities,” which includes things like “responding to natural disasters … (and) preventing terrorism by utilizing diverse perspectives, skills, tools, and resources.”

An official Steering Committee will be established with representatives from virtually every single three and four-letter federal agency, and this committee will be guided by a separate council on how to best incorporate the federal government and DHS into every nook and cranny of American society. Once established, this council will maintain control over presumably all aspects of society by overseeing a secret police force comprised of spies from schools, community groups, churches, and various other local institutions.

“[W]e must institutionalize an all-of-Nation effort to address the evolving threats to the United States,” adds the ominous EO, which was flown under the radar of the mainstream media.

Islamic regime announces suspension of uranium enrichment

Natanz_uranium_enrichment

Fulfilling a request of Barack Obama’s administration reported exclusively by WND, Iran Saturday announced its promise as outlined in the secret negotiations with the U.S. to suspend uranium enrichment to the 20 percent level for its nuclear program.

During an interview with the Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA), Mohammad Hassan Asfari, member of the Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, announced that Iran has halted the enrichment to the 20 percent level and at the same time requested the removal of sanctions by the West.

Asfari said that the halt is a sign of goodwill by Iran but it requires a positive response from the West.

“In order to build trust, the Islamic regime has set aside the 20 percent enrichment process. It is expected that the 5+1 will remove the sanctions. If such action does not take place, Iran will continue with its process of reaching peaceful nuclear energy,” said Asfari.

Shortly thereafter though, the Fars News Agency (which is run by the Revolutionary Guards), put up a short statement saying that the 20 percent enrichment continues and that any announcement on the country’s nuclear activity will only come from the office of the Supreme National Security Council. It is possible that Asfari might have given away the big announcement prematurely or it might indicate that there are still major rifts between the differing factions of the regime for such announcement to be made prior to U.S. elections, or simply that Fars News Agency’s announcement serves for internal consumption.

The 20 percent enrichment has been a major concern to world powers as it would allow Iran to move rather quickly to weaponization grade should it decide to do so.

However, Asfari did not address the fact that Iran already holds enough low enriched uranium for six nuclear bombs if it is further enriched and the current stock of the 20 percent enriched uranium kept at the Fordo facility. Also, as of the release of this news, there has been no official verification by the International Atomic Energy Agency, or IAEA, that Iran has indeed halted the 20 percent enrichment out of its Natanz and Fordo nuclear facilities. This is while reports, just days ago, confirmed that IAEA inspectors have verified that Iran has installed the last of nearly 3000 centrifuges in the underground site at Fordo.

WND reported exclusively on the secret meetings in Washington and Doha, Qatar, between Obama representatives and those of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei Oct. 4, Oct. 8, Oct. 23 and Oct. 28.

According to the source, who remains anonymous for security reasons and is highly placed in the Islamic regime, in the Qatar meeting, the U.S. delegation urged an announcement, even if only for a temporary nuclear deal, before the U.S. elections to help Obama get reelected. A Romney presidency, the delegation said, would surely move more toward Israel, noting that Obama has stood up to Israel against attacking Iran. The regime’s delegation was urged to understand that if Iran did not stand by Obama, Israel would attack Iran.

The source stated that as recently as two weeks ago a letter from the American delegation was passed on to surrogates of the regime in America, which was intended for Khamenei. It contained an urgent request that the announcement be made by the regime’s officials before the U.S. elections.

The reports of the secret talks by WND caused a global stir, especially in Iran, where several denials were issued by regime officials. This saw a majority of the regime’s media scrambling to tackle the news of the secret talks.

Ex-CIA chief slams Biden for throwing U.S. spies under the bus during debate by ‘blaming those who put their lives on the line’ for Benghazi debacle

  • Biden said ‘we weren’t told’ that the consulate had asked for more security
  • State Department officials have testified more security was requested
  • Michael Hayden, ex CIA director, speaks out
  • Michael Chertoff, former Homeland Security chief, joins him in scathing statement about Biden’s Benghazi claims
  • Ambassador Chris Stevens, who was killed in attack, wrote cable warning militias could turn against U.S. on day he died

By Toby Harnden

Two former intelligence chiefs today blasted Vice President Joe Biden for making the U.S. intelligence community a scapegoat for ‘the inconsistent and shifting response of the Obama Administration’.

Michael Hayden, former CIA director, and Michael Chertoff, who served as Homeland Security chief, hit out after Biden stunned many in the intelligence community by insisting that the U.S. consulate in Benghazi did not ask for additional security before it was attacked on September 11 – directly contradicting what security officials and diplomats have testified under oath.

The tough joint statement was issued via the Romney campaign. In it they added: ‘Blaming those who put their lives on the line is not the kind of leadership this country needs.’

Denial: Biden claimed that he didn’t know U.S. officials in Benghazi had asked for additional security before the consulate attack, an apparent contradiction

‘During the Vice Presidential debate, we were disappointed to see Vice President Biden blame the intelligence community for the inconsistent and shifting response of the Obama Administration to the terrorist attacks in Benghazi,’ they said in the statement.

‘Given what has emerged publicly about the intelligence available before, during, and after the September 11 attack, it is clear that any failure was not on the part of the intelligence community, but on the part of White House decision-makers who should have listened to, and acted on, available intelligence. Blaming those who put their lives on the line is not the kind of leadership this country needs.’

Hayden, a career intelligence officer and retired U.S. Air Force general, and Chertoff, a former prosecutor, both served in the Bush administration.

Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney’s vice-presidential running mate, hit out at the Obama administration’s handling of the Libya assault which killed ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.
The Vice President defended the government’s handling of the crisis and denied that the State Department had turned down a request for security reinforcements in the months before the raid.

The heated debate exchange came just hours after presidential candidate Mitt Romney launched his own denunciation of Barack Obama’s response to the attack, saying the administration ‘failed to grasp the seriousness of the challenges that we face’.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Stevens himself expressed concerns about security at the facility.

Also, the head of a special operations team helping out with security asked for ‘more, not less’ reinforcements before the government pulled dozens from Libya earlier this year.

But Biden, when asked about it by debate moderator Martha Raddatz, said: ‘We weren’t told they wanted more security there.’

Ryan kept up his attack, saying: ‘There were requests for extra security – those requests were not honoured.’

He compared the situation in Libya with the heavily guarded American embassy in France as he insisted: ‘Our ambassador in Paris has a Marine detachment guarding him, shouldn’t we have a Marine detachment guarding our ambassador in Benghazi?’

Clash: The pair disagreed over many aspects of how the administration handled the crisisClash: The pair disagreed over many aspects of how the administration handled the crisis

The Vice President attempted to deflect the blame for the security failures onto Republicans in Congress, saying that Ryan’s fiscal plan ‘cut embassy security in his budget by $300million below what we asked for.’

The pair also sparred over another controversial issue connected to the Benghazi assault, as Biden again insisted that the administration initially believed the deadly raid was the result of protests over an anti-Muslim YouTube video which were sweeping the Islamic world at the time.

‘The intelligence community told us that,’ he said. ‘As they learned more facts about exactly what happened, they changed their assessment.’

But Ryan replied: ‘It took the President two weeks to acknowledge this was a terrorist attack. He went to the UN and in his speech at the UN six times talked about the YouTube video.

‘Look, if we are hit by terrorists, we are going to call it for what it is: a terrorist attack.’

Criticism: Mitt Romney also launched an attack on the President's handling of the deadly raidCriticism: Mitt Romney also launched an attack on the President’s handling of the deadly raid

Former presidential candidate Newt Gingrich predicted on Friday that Biden’s uncompromising statements would ‘haunt’ the Obama campaign ahead of next month’s election.

‘Biden on Benghazi was so wrong last night, it’s going to haunt them from now until the next debate,’ the former House speaker told CBS This Morning.

Romney also launched a blistering assault on the Obama administration’s treatment of the crisis as he spoke at a campaign rally in North Carolina.

After an Obama official suggested that the tragedy had been politicised by Republicans, the GOP candidate responded: ‘I think today we got another indication of how President Obama and his campaign fail to grasp the seriousness of the challenges that we face here in America.’

He continued: ‘Mr President, this is an issue because we were attacked successfully by terrorists on the anniversary of 9/11.

‘President Obama, this is an issue because Americans wonder why it was it took so long for you and your administration to admit that this was a terrorist attack.’

The White House today defended Biden’s comments saying what he meant to say was that the Sate Department handles security and that Obama and Biden weren’t told of the need for security.

Hours before the debate, two top security officials who had been to the consulate testified on Capitol Hill that they had made requests for more troops.

Former regional security forces officer Eric Nordstrom and Lt Col Andrew Wood, who was head of a Special Forces ‘Site Security Team’ in the country, placed blame on Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Charlene Lamb for rejecting their requests.

‘The takeaway… for me and my staff, was abundantly clear – we were not going to get resources until the aftermath of an incident,’ Nordstrom said. ‘And the question that we would ask is: how thin does the ice have to get before someone falls through?’

‘We were fighting a losing battle,’ Wood added. ‘We couldn’t even keep what we had.’

Lamb and Patrick Kennedy, the undersecretary for management, testified that they believed the security measures in place were enough.

Attack: The four men died after riots over an anti-Islamic film stormed past the U.S. embassy in BenghaziAttack: Four U.S. citizens died in the raid on the consulate in Benghazi, including Mr Stevens

On September 11, the day he died, Stevens wrote to Washington officials detailing a dispute involving the leaders of two prominent Benghazi militias who were responsible for security in the city, according to the Daily Beast.

The two men, Wissam bin Ahmed and Muhammad al-Gharabi, claimed that the U.S. was lobbying for centrist politician Mahmoud Jibril to become Libya’s prime minister.

They said that if he won the vote, they ‘would not continue to guarantee security in Benghazi, a critical function they asserted they were currently providing,’ according to Stevens.

Despite that warning, Stevens did not ask for more U.S. troops, and commented that Benghazi officials believed the city was becoming safer.

The cable made no mention of a U.S.-made YouTube video mocking the Prophet Muhammad which was originally thought to have been the motivation for the deadly assault on the consulate later that night.

Pleas: Lt. Col. Andrew Wood said he asked for reinforcements in Libya but faced troop withdrawals insteadPleas: Lt. Col. Andrew Wood said he asked for reinforcements in Libya but faced troop withdrawals instead

The American compound was being guarded by members of the ‘February 17 Martyrs Brigade’, a militia which shared members with the groups run by Mr bin Ahmed and Mr al-Gharabi.

It was not only Stevens who saw potential security issues cropping up in Libya before the September 11 raid.

Wood said officials felt ‘like we were being asked to play the piano with two fingers’ after a number of troops were withdrawn from Libya in August.

He told CBS This Morning that worried embassy staff had approached him to ask if they would still be safe when his team had left.

‘I could only answer that what we were being told is that they’re working on it,’ he said.

He added: ‘Shooting instances occurred, many instances involved the local security guard force that we were training.

Aftermath: The U.S. consulate in Benghazi the day after last month's deadly assaultAftermath: The U.S. consulate in Benghazi the day after last month’s deadly assault

‘Constantly, there were battles going on between militias, criminal activity and that became an increasing danger as time went on as well.’

Wood claimed that other senior officials, including Stevens, had requested a boost in the U.S. security presence, saying: ‘We felt we needed more, not less.’

Although his team was based in the city’s capital Tripoli, Wood said he would have accompanied the ambassador to Benghazi had he still been in the country.

State Department officials said that as the Site Security Team was intended to help re-open the embassy in Tripoli, their departure from Libya was irrelevant to the subsequent security situation.

They also claimed that Wood did not know the details of the situation in Benghazi, which is 400 miles from the capital.

30 Stupid Things The Government Is Spending Money On

March 2, 2012

By Michael Snyder
BlacklistedNews

http://www.blacklistednews.com/30_Stupid_Things_The_Government_Is_Spending_Money_On_/18240/0/0/0/Y/M.html

If you want to get paid for doing something stupid, just turn to the U.S. government.  The U.S. government is paying researchers to play video games, it is paying researchers to study the effects of cocaine on Japanese quail and it has spent millions of dollars to train Chinese prostitutes to drink responsibly.  The amount of money that the government wastes is absolutely horrifying.  Do you remember all of that political wrangling over the debt ceiling deal last year?  Do you remember how our politicians told us that there were cutting spending as much as they possibly could?  Well, it was all a giant lie.  As you will see below, the U.S. government is spending money on some of the most stupid things imaginable.  What makes all of this even worse is that we are going into enormous amounts of debt in order to pay for all of this.  We are borrowing billions of dollars a day in order to pay for stupid stuff that no government on earth should ever be paying for.  Trust me, you are going to find it hard to believe some of the stuff in this list.  It is almost inconceivable what our politicians are doing with our tax dollars.

The following are 30 incredibly stupid things that the federal government is spending money on….

#1 The U.S. government is spending $750,000 on a new soccer field for detainees held at Guantanamo Bay.

#2 The Obama administration plans to spend between 16 and 20 million dollars helping students from Indonesia get master’s degrees.

#3 If you can believe it, the U.S. government has spent $175,587 “to determine if cocaine makes Japanese quail engage in sexually risky behavior”.

#4 The U.S. government spent $200,000 on “a tattoo removal program” in Mission Hills, California.

#5 The federal government has shelled out $3 million to researchers at the University of California at Irvine to fund their research on video games such as World of Warcraft.  Wouldn’t we all love to have a “research job” like that?

#6 The Department of Health and Human Services plans to spend $500 million on a program that will, among other things, seek to solve the problem of 5-year-old children that “can’t sit still” in a kindergarten classroom.

#7 Fannie Mae is about to ask the federal government for another $4.6 billion bailout, and it will almost certainly get it.

#8 The federal government once spent 30 million dollars on a program that was designed to help Pakistani farmers produce more mangoes.

#9 The U.S. Department of Agriculture once gave researchers at the University of New Hampshire $700,000 to study methane gas emissions from dairy cows.

#10 According to USA Today, 13 different government agencies “fund 209 different science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education programs — and 173 of those programs overlap with at least one other program.”

#11 A total of $615,000 was given to the University of California at Santa Cruz to digitize photos, T-shirts and concert tickets belonging to the Grateful Dead.

#12 China lends us more money than any other foreign nation, but that didn’t stop our government from spending 17.8 million dollars on social and environmental programs for China.

#13 The U.S. government once spent 2.6 million dollars to train Chinese prostitutes to drink responsibly.

#14 One professor at Stanford University was given $239,100 to study how Americans use the Internet to find love.

#15 The U.S. Postal Service spent $13,500 on a single dinner at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse.

#16 The National Science Foundation once spent $216,000 to study whether or not politicians “gain or lose support by taking ambiguous positions”.

#17 A total of $1.8 million was spent on a “museum of neon signs” in Las Vegas, Nevada.

#18 The federal government spends 25 billion dollars a year maintaining federal buildings that are either unused or totally vacant.

#19 U.S. farmers are given a total of $2 billion each year for not farming their land.

#20 The U.S. government handed one Tennessee library $5,000 for the purpose of hosting a series of video game parties.

#21 A few years ago the government spent $123,050 on a Mother’s Day Shrine in Grafton, West Virginia.  It turns out that Grafton only has a population of a little more than 5,000 people.

#22 One professor at Dartmouth University was given $137,530 to create a “recession-themed” video game entitled “Layoff”.

#23 According to the Heritage Foundation, the U.S. military spent “$998,798 shipping two 19-cent washers from South Carolina to Texas and $293,451 sending an 89-cent washer from South Carolina to Florida”.

#24 The U.S. Department of Agriculture once shelled out $30,000 to a group of farmers to develop a tourist-friendly database of farms that host guests for overnight “haycations”.

#25 The National Institutes of Health paid researchers $400,000 to find out why gay men in Argentina engage in risky sexual behavior when they are drunk.

#26 The National Institutes of Health also once spent $442,340 to study the behavior of male prostitutes in Vietnam.

#27 The National Institutes of Health loves to spend our tax money on really bizarre things.  The NIH once spent $800,000in “stimulus funds” to study the impact of a “genital-washing program” on men in South Africa.

#28 According to the Washington Post, 1,271 different government organizations work on government programs related to counterterrorism and homeland security.

#29 The U.S. government spent $100,000 on a “Celebrity Chef Fruit Promotion Road Show in Indonesia”.

#30 The feds once gave Alaska Airlines $500,000 “to paint a Chinook salmon” on the side of a Boeing 737.

How in the world can our government be so foolish?

Anyone that claims that there is not a lot of stuff that can be cut out of the federal budget is lying to you.

All of this crazy spending is going to get us into a massive amount of trouble eventually.  Already, on a per capita basis the U.S. national debt is worse than the national debts of Greece, Italy, Ireland, Portugal and Spain.

We have accumulated the biggest debt in the history of the world and we are adding to it at a rate of about 150 million dollars an hour.

Our politicians strut around as if they are the smartest and wisest leaders in the history of the world, but the truth is that someday people will look back in horror at the decline of our once great society.

The federal government needs to stop spending so much money on stupid things and needs to stop pushing our national debt to nightmarish new levels.

Unfortunately, the corruption in Washington D.C. is so deep and so pervasive that it is going to be almost impossible to turn it around.
