HAZMAT in Bulgaria on Thursday, 08 August, 2013 at 09:05 (09:05 AM) UTC.

Description
Over 250 workers of the Sugar Factory – Plovdiv AD company in Bulgaria’s southern city of Plovdiv were evacuated Wednesday after a breakdown and an ammonia leak. The breakdown occurred at the chocolate production unit at a time when there were 60 workers in the hall, according to Petar Staykov, CEO of the plant, as cited by the Focus news agency. Some 150 liters of ammonia leaked as a result of the breakdown. Staykov claimed that all workers had been evacuated from the factory on the 7th minute after the signal. The sugar factory will stay closed on Thursday. The workers at the chocolate production unit will return to their workplaces only after safe ammonia levels have been recorded. The reason for the ammonia leak has not been identified yet. The CEO of the plant assured that the installation affected by the breakdown was around 15-year-old, which was not that much for such type of refrigeration equipment. Staykov suggested that only one woman had been hospitalized, while other news agencies informed that three workers had been taken to hospital.

30.12.2012 HAZMAT USA State of California, Los Angeles [Los Angeles Cold Storage Co, 400 S Central Ave] Damage level
Details

HAZMAT in USA on Sunday, 30 December, 2012 at 10:34 (10:34 AM) UTC.

Description
Firefighters said they sealed a significant ammonia leak coming from a pipe at a cold storage facility in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday. Firefighters were dispatched to the area after receiving a call about a strong smell of ammonia. The leak was found on the roof of Los Angeles Cold Storage Co. at 400 S. Central Ave. between 4th and 5th streets. “We got LAPD on scene to assist us with the evacuation. We cleared about a block in either direction and found out that we did actually have a leak from one of the pipes on the roof,” said Battalion Chief Greg Gibson of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Gibson said a one-block radius was cleared as a precaution and a hazmat crew was called in to close the valve. The area was closed for less than an hour, he said. There were no immediate reports of damages or injuries.
